Pokemon GO Fans Are Asking for One Change to Max Battles
Pokemon GO fans are asking Scopely to push one big change to the game’s Max Battles, making some of the game’s toughest raids a little easier for bigger groups. The massively popular mobile game based on the monster-catching franchise has given players a wide variety of different ways to challenge the game’s strongest Pokemon. Aside from Pokemon GO‘s typical raids, players can participate in Mega Raid Battles to obtain Mega Evolutions, Shadow Raids for powerful Shadow Pokemon, and plenty more. However, Pokemon GO‘s Max Battles gives players access to some larger-than-life creatures.
Max Battles serve as Pokemon GO‘s main way of implementing the Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon first seen in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Max Battles allow groups of up to four players to team up and take on the powerful Pokemon, with fans needing to bring Pokemon that can use Dynamax or Gigantamax. Scopely also occasionally offers larger Gigantamax Max Battles for the special versions of Pokemon like Grimmsnarl, Charizard, and Gengar, with a total of 15 Gigantamax variants currently available in Pokemon GO. Now, fans of Pokemon GO are asking Scopely to make one big change that could help to ease the process of clearing Max Battles for many players.

Pokemon GO Fans Want Change to Max Battles
A post shared to the Pokemon GO subreddit by Reddit user wandering_revenant is asking Scopely to make a change to the player cap for Max Battles. Pokemon GO‘s regular Max Battles limit players to only participating in teams of 4, regardless of the particular battle’s tier level. The user pointed out conflicts they had experienced while trying to organize the Dynamax raids at higher tiers, with even Tier 5 Max Battles only allowing four players to a raid. The Pokemon GO fan suggested that Scopely should raise the player limit for the game’s Max Battles to 20 at Tier 5, allowing five teams of four Trainers to team up to battle one Dynamax Pokemon.
Pokemon GO Raising Max Battle Cap Has Precedent
The request for Pokemon GO to increase the player cap for its Max Battles comes as another of the game’s raids has already seen a similar adjustment. Scopely officially raised the player cap for Pokemon GO‘s Gigantamax Battles in August, with the massive raids now able to support lobbies of up to 100 players. The change was implemented for Pokemon GO alongside the addition of Eternamax Eternatus during the “Max Finale” portion of 2025’s Pokemon GO Fest, confirmed to be permanent after the event’s conclusion.
The debate about Pokemon GO‘s Max Battles comes as the game has recently given fans lots of chances to pick up Dynamax Pokemon. The ongoing Dynamax Lugia Weekend puts the Pokemon Gold and Silver Legendary Pokemon in the spotlight, with Lugia appearing more frequently in raids. The Dynamax event also gives fans the chance to pick up the shiny variant of the Diving Pokemon, similarly seeing boosted spawns as part of Dynamax Lugia Weekend. Pokemon GO will hold its next Max Battle Day in mid-December, though the event’s featured Pokemon has yet to be confirmed.
Scopely looks to have a busy December ahead for Pokemon GO, with lots of exciting content on the way for the mobile game. December 2 will kick off the game’s newest season, with Precious Paths teased to bring a new Gigantamax Pokemon, some holiday festivities, and even the return of the Master Ball to Pokemon GO for a limited time. Pokemon GO has also already revealed the lineup for December’s Community Day event, with the two-day end-of-year event featuring a mix of every Pokemon featured in Community Days throughout 2025. Pokemon GO fans should have plenty to look forward to as the game closes out another big year.
