Is BF6’s Alien Easter Egg Teasing a New Mode? Players Think So

By newsgame

Battlefield 6 has its share of fun references, whether it be the dinosaur toy at the start of the BF6 campaign that calls back to Battlefield 3 or some Dead Space homages on a diner menu. However, players recently uncovered a truly strange secret on the New Sobek City multiplayer map, as mixed in with all the trash and rubble is the skull of an alien. This large, elongated alien head (discovered by Easter egg hunter Edwaxed and shared on Reddit by PeanutIllustrious) is covered in strange markings that the community has been trying to decipher, and so far, fans have two theories about what this random secret could be hinting at.

The first possibility is that it’s the beginning of another Phantom program, a complex ARG that’s taken place in multiple Battlefield games and rewards unique cosmetics or weapons like the Phantom Bow. If this is the case, players will soon find themselves solving complex puzzles both in-game and on websites, working together to figure out whatever secret rooms and tasks BF Studios has planned for them. However, the use of an alien skull specifically, as opposed to the split human skull traditionally associated with the fictional Phantom faction, means this Easter egg may be hinting at something else entirely. Specifically, some players think an Alien game mode for Battlefield 6 could be imminent.

There’s even an argument for Aliens vs. Dinosaurs to be closer to what the mode actually is, as a T-Rex skull can be found in the Sobek City outskirts as well. That said, Battlefield has always played around with dinosaurs, whereas the alien teaser seems a bit more bold.

Would Battlefield 6 Fans Even Like an Aliens Mode?

Given all the backlash to unrealistic skins in Battlefield 6, it’s hard to imagine older members of the fan base appreciating a hypothetical Soldiers vs. Aliens game mode. Complaints about such a feature hurting immersion would undoubtedly appear the second such a mode is announced, with BF6 sure to accused of “losing the plot” in the same way that the Black Ops 7 campaign has been roasted online for its boss fights. Any players who want realism from Battlefield 6 would shun the mode, criticizing Battlefield Studios for spending time and resources on its creation when there are so many demands for additions like large maps. However, that doesn’t automatically mean that the mode can’t work, as Battlefield has successfully experimented before.

Battlefield 2142 is a cult classic, with the futuristic warfare and mechs being a fairly novel concept for a big FPS back when it released in 2006. Battlefield: Hardline, another cult classic, came out in 2015 and focused on a cops vs. robbers concept. Neither of these games were traditional Battlefield, but they did have their fans, showing that there would surely be interest from the more open-minded half of the community. And with Battlefield Portal existing, and players creating everything from CoD map remasters to over-the-top racecourses within it, Battlefield 6 already provides access to content that clashes with its normal multiplayer tone. So long as an alien mode was given its own lore and kept separate from the main Battlefield timeline, anyone not interested in the concept would be able to ignore it, and it could even win over some doubters if there’s enough passion behind it. Battlefield Studios would surely have ways to make the mode feel like a proper BF experience, too.

What Could a Battlefield 6 Alien Game Mode Look Like?

A Battlefield 6 alien mode could lean into a concept that the game only scratches the surface of via bot lobbies and Portal creations: PvE. A co-op experience pitting a group of players against hundreds of invaders from another planet could be incredible, especially if Battlefield’s trademark features were implemented into such a mode:

  • Vehicles could see players firing at UFOs from the ground in Tanks, or skilled pilots could chase them down via Battlefield 6’s jets for some unique dogfights.
  • Destruction could showcase the power of alien weaponry, with blasters tearing apart buildings and UFO beams tearing structures apart.
  • Battlefield’s large-scale warfare could see more than the usual four-player co-op offered through an alien mode, with multiple squads of four potentially able to be supported.
  • Battlefield Portal could enable a never-ending alien mode, as if BF Studios were to grant creators access to the alien models and behavior, players could keep making more maps for years.
  • Battlefield’s class system could give players four distinct roles within the mode, with special gadgets tied to each that are handcrafted for the mode. Think the underrated Extinction mode from Call of Duty: Ghosts.

While many have long requested a Dino Mode for Battlefield 6, the reality is that enemy variety would be fairly limited, as nearly every foe — whether it be flyers, small dinos that attack in packs, or huge creatures — would be a melee attacker. With Aliens, there’s room for Battlefield to go wild with otherworldly vehicles, armored enemies, ranged and melee attackers, animals commanded by smarter extraterrestrials, and so on. An Alien faction would be the gift that keeps on giving for a co-op mode in BF6, as BF Studios could get as creative as it wants with the antagonists’ arsenal.

Battlefield 6’s Aliens Could Be Its Answer to CoD Zombies

As Battlefield 6 and Black Ops 7 have shown, the competition between the two biggest military FPS franchises of all time seems destined to go on forever, and an Alien-centric PvE mode would finally let BF Studios counter CoD’s most unique content. It could borrow several concepts from Treyarch’s beloved survival mode, from rounds and hidden Easter egg quests to a new Wonder Weapon being added with every official map. Tonally, there’s a case to be made for an alien mode being more serious and resembling something like Insomniac’s PS3-era Resistance trilogy, but it could just as easily mimic CoD Zombies’ blend of humor, wackiness, and mystery. Either way, its story could be told through radios and secret messages, as the Phantom programs of the past have shown that BF Studios would be capable of old-school CoD Zombies storytelling if it wanted to go that route.

Resistance

While CoD Zombies may be a lightning in the bottle success, and a BF6 Alien mode may not be able to capture that same magic, there’s no way to know how it would perform until it’s been attempted. Battlefield RedSec has done fairly well as a free-to-play battle royale experience, so perhaps Battlefield 6 could eat into Call of Duty’s territory even more with a mode reminiscent of CoD Zombies. At the very least, it would be interesting to see attempted, and with BF Studios composed of multiple teams, it feels like a real personality. For now, though, an Alien game mode remains speculation based on a random skull found in a multiplayer map, as there’s no evidence that it’s anything more than a fun gag. Perhaps players will figure out what the skull’s purpose is soon, and if anything actually happens once it’s been shot and broken, but an Alien mode is just a fun fan theory at the time of writing.
