Z-A’s DLC Gives One Leaked Mega Evolution Its Due 3 Years Too Late
Despite already introducing 26 new Mega Evolutions, Pokemon Legends: Z-A is set to expand that roster even more in the upcoming Mega Dimension DLC. Pokemon Legends: Z-A has already announced new DLC Megas for Raichu, Chimecho, Baxcalibur, and Zeraora, with even more leaked to be getting new forms. However, one of these leaked new Megas feels like it missed the boat by a mile, and would have been a better fit if it had released three years ago.
In addition to the new Mega Evolutions confirmed for the DLC, there are several others that have been leaked, including:
- Absol (second form)
- Staraptor
- Garchomp (second form)
- Lucario (second form)
- Heatran
- Darkrai
- Golurk
- Meowstic
- Crabominable
- Golisopod
- Magearna
- Scovillain
- Glimmora
- Tatsugiri
It’s nice to see more Gen 9 representation among these leaked Megas, as Baxcalibur marked the first Paldea mon to receive a Mega. Scovillain, Glimmora, and Tatsugiri are great additions to the Mega line-up, but it’s Glimmora that would have benefited the most from a more powerful form back in Scarlet and Violet.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A’s Leaked Mega Glimmora Would Have Been Better in Scarlet and Violet
Although Mega Evolution isn’t in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Mega Glimmora sure could have used a Mega form back at the start of Gen 9 rather than at the end of it. The Rock/Poison critter isn’t the most memorable mon native to the Paldea Region, and its stats are nothing to write home about either. Glimmora does have an exclusive ability in the form of Toxic Debris, which scatters Toxic Spikes when it’s hit by a Physical move, and an exclusive attack in Mortal Spin, which removes binding effects like Leech Seed and entry hazards like Spikes, but it never really excelled in battle.
Glimmora is an Underwhelming Battler, But Has Interesting Lore
The forgettable battling capabilities of Glimmora only highlight a major missed opportunity to put a Pokemon with potentially crucial lore on a pedestal in Scarlet and Violet. Glimmora are one of the few critters found in the Area Zero Underdepths, where the Terastal Phenomenon originates. Additionally, their bodies resemble Tera Jewels, and Glimment Crystals are used to make the TM for Tera Blast, showing that there is a clear connection between the Pokemon and the Terastal Phenomenon that doesn’t get fully explained in-game.
The Teal Mask DLC also sees Glimmora spawn near the Crystal Pool in Kitakami, where Terastal Crystals can be found, furthering this connection.
Mega Glimmora Could Have Made Scarlet and Violet’s Battle Against Geeta More Intense
While a new Mega Evolution for Glimmora in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s DLC could finally shed some light on the hidden power within these creatures, it comes too late for players’ first impressions of it to be reversed. The most notable part of Glimmora’s presence in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the fact that it serves as the ace of Champion Geeta’s team. Instead of having a Psuedo-Legendary like Metagross or Dragonite as her ace, Geeta’s Glimmora serves as an anticlimactic end to an overall easy boss fight.
If Glimmora could have Mega Evolved during the fight against Geeta, it would have posed a much bigger threat than it did. It’s understandable why Glimmora didn’t Mega Evolve in Scarlet and Violet, given the mechanic didn’t return until the release of Legends: Z-A. However, even if Geeta’s Glimmora was the only instance of a Mega Evolution in Scarlet and Violet, it would have made her battle far more memorable and could have served as a hint towards Mega Evolution returning for real in Pokemon Legends: Z-A three years later.
Geeta does Terastallize her Glimmora during the Champion battle, but it is still weaker than it would be if it were to Mega Evolve instead.
