Nintendo Switch 2 Has 6 Big Games Releasing in December 2025

By newsgame

Nintendo Switch 2 owners can mark their calendars for six new games that are set to launch on the platform in the very near future. The Switch 2’s first six months have been eventful, to say the least. Nintendo launched the Switch 2 amidst tariff drama to rousing success thanks to a strong launch line-up of games headlined by Mario Kart World.

Not one to rest on its laurels, Nintendo followed up the Switch 2’s busy launch with Donkey Kong Bananza a month later. Donkey Kong Bananza earned rave reviews and is currently the highest-rated Switch 2 exclusive. DK Bananza even managed to secure itself a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025, solidifying it as one of the absolute best games that you can only play on Nintendo’s newest system.

16 Big Switch 2 Games Coming Soon

Nintendo’s latest financial report highlights 10 first-party games that are on the way for the Switch 2 console.

Even more first-party Nintendo games have hit the Switch 2 since then, with both Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders releasing this past month. The Switch 2 library has also been bolstered by Switch 2 Edition games, most notably Pokemon Legends: Z-A. There are more Switch 2 games for fans to look forward to before the year is over, with six titles on deck for December. And they all happen to be releasing next week.

Upcoming Switch 2 Games for December 2025

  • Marvel Cosmic Invasion – December 1
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows – December 2
  • Red Dead Redemption – December 2
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – December 4
  • Ocotopath Traveler 0 – December 4
  • Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds – December 4

Co-op beat ’em up Marvel Cosmic Invasion will grace the Switch 2 on December 1 alongside other platforms, while Assassin’s Creed Shadows will release for the system on December 2. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the latest open world Assassin’s Creed game from Ubisoft, finally bringing the franchise to the Japan setting that fans have been begging to see for years. Assassin’s Creed Shadows has had its fair share of controversies, but it also earned strong reviews and as long as the Switch 2 port runs well, it should make for a great addition to the console’s library.

The same day that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is releasing for the Switch 2, fans can also look forward to a native port of Red Dead Redemption. The Red Dead Redemption Switch 2 port will have enhancements compared to the Switch 1 version of the open world western game, and fans can upgrade for free.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Red Dead Redemption both releasing for Switch 2 on the same day will ensure that December 2 is plenty busy, but December 4 is going to be even busier. On December 4, Switch 2 owners will be treated to the Switch 2 Edition of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Octopath Traveler 0, and a Switch 2 port of the well-received racing game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is currently one of the highest-rated games of the year in terms of user score, and it has also been nominated for Best Family Game and Best Sports/Racing Game at The Game Awards.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was announced for the original Switch all the way back in 2017. Nintendo ultimately scrapped that version of the game and restarted development at Retro Studios in 2019. The Switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond features significant performance upgrades compared to the Switch 1 release, and it even supports mouse controls. Clearly, the definitive way to experience Metroid Prime 4 will be on Switch 2, so it will be exciting to see how it turns out.

Switch 2 Games Coming in 2026

We don’t know all the new Switch 2 games coming in 2026, but the calendar has already started filling up. A Switch 2 Edition of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is coming on January 15, while the long-awaited port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is releasing a week later, on January 22. February’s got all kinds of Switch 2 games lined up, including first-party release Mario Tennis Fever and Capcom’s highly-anticipated survival-horror game Resident Evil Requiem.

Pokemon Pokopia, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and even more games are confirmed for the Switch 2 in 2026. Based on what’s been announced so far, it seems Nintendo is looking to keep the Switch 2’s momentum going strong in the new year.
