PS5 Has 5 Big Games Releasing in December 2025

By newsgame

PlayStation 5 gamers have at least five big games to look forward to in December 2025, ranging from a co-op beat ’em up to a narrative-driven skateboarding game that will debut as a day one PS Plus Extra title. 2025 was a solid year for Sony’s latest console, with the PS5 home to some of the absolute best new games that released this year.

Out of all the games nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025, four of them are playable on PS5 and one of them, Hideo Kojima’s critically-acclaimed Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, is exclusive to the console. Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei, a gorgeous open world samurai game, also released this year to strong reviews, even if it ultimately fell short of securing a GOTY nom at The Game Awards.

PS Plus Subscribers Are Losing 9 Games in December

Subscribers of PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium are set to lose 9 more games next month, as some big titles will leave the service in December 2025.

2026 should be an even bigger year for the PS5 with Grand Theft Auto 6 on the way and the exclusive Wolverine game dropping in the fall, but there are still games to look forward to in the near future as well. In fact, December 2025 has at least five higher-profile PS5 games for fans to check out, with Marvel Cosmic Invasion on December 1, the PS5 port of Rockstar’s brilliant open world western Red Dead Redemption on December 2, Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler 0 on December 4, and finally, both the Xbox-published Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and the PS Plus Extra day one game Skate Story on December 8.

Upcoming PS5 Games for December 2025

  • Marvel Cosmic Invasion – December 1
  • Red Dead Redemption – December 2
  • Octopath Traveler 0 – December 4
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 – December 8
  • Skate Story – December 8

Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a co-op beat ’em up game starring famous Marvel superheroes. Developed by Tribute Games, the studio that made the well-reviewed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, chances are good that Cosmic Invasion will be a solid time with friends.

Red Dead Redemption, meanwhile, is technically already playable on PS5 through the PS4 version, but the beloved game is now getting a native PS5 release with 4K resolution and support for 60 frames per second. Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 5 also comes with the Undead Nightmare expansion and all that entails, giving PS5 gamers an absolutely massive adventure to play through. Anyone that missed the boat on the OG Red Dead Redemption back in the day should jump at the opportunity to play the PS5 version of the game, and those that have already played it may want to use this opportunity to revisit it. After all, if you have the PS4 version, the PS5 upgrade is free.

Red Dead Redemption will also be added to the PS Plus Extra subscription service on December 2.

Octopath Traveler 0 is a classic-style JRPG that uses Square Enix’s signature HD-2D art style. A prequel to the other Octopath Traveler games, Octopath Traveler 0 should greatly appeal to fans of old-school RPGs. It’s estimated that Octopath Traveler 0‘s main story will take a whopping 100 hours to beat or thereabouts, so the game will certainly give PS5 gamers their money’s worth.

This is not a comprehensive list of every single new PS5 game releasing in December 2025. Ports of Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut and the first two Yakuza Kiwami games are also releasing in December, with all three of those games dropping on December 8.

What makes Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024‘s debut on PS5 so interesting is the fact that it’s yet another Xbox-owned game jumping ship to the competition. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 didn’t earn as high marks as its predecessor, but it’s still considered a great flight simulation game. The genre is admittedly niche, but it’s still wild to see Xbox publish games on PS5.

And finally, Skate Story is a narrative-driven skateboarding game where players take on the role of a demon trying to skate their way to the moon. What elevates Skate Story, beyond the fact that it simply looks like a lot of fun to play, is the fact that it’s a day one PS Plus Extra game. This way, PS5 gamers can play it in its entirety without paying anything more than they already do for their Extra or Premium subscription.
