Age of Imprisonment Update Coming on November 27

By newsgame

The latest collaboration between Nintendo and Koei Tecmo, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, officially launched on November 5, 2025. Set hundreds of years before the events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Age of Imprisonment chronicles Princess Zelda’s time in Hyrule’s distant past as she, King Rauru, the sage Mineru, and many others fight against the emerging threat of Ganondorf and his monstrous army.

Similar to previous titles Hyrule Warriors and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the game features hack-and-slash gameplay with a variety of playable characters from across Hyrule’s many races. Age of Imprisonment has received generally positive reviews, with many feeling that it is one of the strongest entries in the Hyrule Warriors sub-series and proof that Hyrule Warriors games are a valuable part of the larger Zelda canon. Now, Age of Imprisonment players will have even more goodies to enjoy, with a free update from Nintendo coming just in time for Thanksgiving

Major Age of Imprisonment Update Adds New Weapons, Sync Strikes, and More

The first major update for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is coming on November 27, and it will be fully free to download. Some of the upcoming content was revealed in detail, while some new elements are only hinted at. A Twitter post by Nintendo of America confirms that Princess Zelda and Calamo the Korok will be receiving a new Sync Strike attack and two new weapons will be added, including Rauru’s iconic Sword of Light. Players will also be able to challenge themselves against new, trickier enemies, including upgraded Bokoblin variants.

The announcement was slightly cagier about the new battles which will be coming in Age of Imprisonment’s free update. The official Japanese Website for Age of Imprisonment provides brief descriptions of three new battles players can expect to face: “A serious battle with Rauru,” “The battle to acquire many Poes,” and “Aim for over 2000 KOs.” The hinted-at battle with Rauru is particularly interesting, as the first King of Hyrule and Sage of Light is quite a powerful figure who could prove quite the challenge for players to take down.

This is the first free update to Age of Imprisonment, and it will likely not be the last. A previous statement on the game’s Japanese Website indicated that a total of three free content updates were planned. Currently, however, like Tears of the Kingdom before it, there is no plan to release paid DLC for Age of Imprisonment. Age of Calamity received an extensive Expansion Pass that added multiple new fighters, but it seems that Age of Imprisonment will not be receiving similar treatment, and the upcoming free content updates are the only new content players can expect.
