PC Gamers Have Until December 3 to Play Popular Sci-Fi Game For Free

By newsgame

PC gamers can currently try Star Citizen for free until December 3, giving them plenty of time to play the popular sci-fi game before it returns to full price. As Star Citizen isn’t available on Steam, gamers must head to the Roberts Space Industries website to download and play the game.

The development of Star Citizen has been as controversial as it has been exciting. It was initially announced through a compelling Kickstarter campaign back in 2012, and in the years since, Star Citizen has continued to hit massive crowdfunding milestones, recently passing the $900 million mark. In practice, this makes Star Citizen one of the most expensive video games ever made. And despite still being in early access all these years later, Star Citizen continues to contain extremely expensive microtransactions, which have driven controversy regarding the sci-fi game.

Star Citizen is Free-To-Play Until December 3

As part of the ongoing Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2955 event, players can download and play Star Citizen for free until December 3. According to developer Cloud Imperium Games, this will allow players to try out nearly 200 Star Citizen ships for free, with “perennial classics built for every type of pilot.” Those on the fence about Star Citizen should take advantage of this opportunity while it is still there.

There have been plenty of free Star Citizen events in the past, so this likely won’t be the last. However, few previous events have had this many ships to try for free, making this the most comprehensive trial period the game has had to date. Cloud Imperium Games says that players can “take off and explore, fight, mine, salvage, haul and experience everything Star Citizen has to offer for FREE” through December 3.

Despite the already extensive development time for Star Citizen, it still seems as though the game has a long way to go before it’s ready for a full release. The studio is also working on Squadron 42, the planned single-player campaign for Star Citizen, which is only extending development. There were even rumors that Squadron 42 would make its way to consoles alongside PC, although that has yet to come to fruition.
