5 RPGs Where the Luck Stat ACTUALLY Matters
I think we could all use some extra luck now and then, and while I can’t increase my item discovery or critical hit rate in real life, I can certainly tweak them in games. Still, the luck stat gets a bad rap, often being eschewed in favor of other traditional RPG stat categories like strength, dexterity, and vitality.
But with St. Patrick’s Day coming around, feel that it’s especially vital to highlight the value of the luck stat, as there are plenty of games where investing in luck can lead to viable, fun, or just plain interesting builds. Personally, I’ve been coming around to the luck stat more and more as I get older, though I won’t try and assign any meaning to that: it’s generally just a fun way to shake up a playthrough, especially if you like to make your own character archetypes instead of following the preordained paths of tank, healer, et cetera. In light of that, I’d like to share some RPGs where luck is especially compelling.
Best Teams In Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Here are the best teams that players can bring to battle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, complete with information for their builds and strategies.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
2025’s best RPG has a lot going for it, and build-crafting is one of them. Indeed, despite Clair Obscur’s party members having preordained archetypes (Lune is the de facto mage, for example), you can spec into some pretty interesting strategies with the right know-how, and prioritizing the Luck stat can be a good way to do that. Unlike many other RPGs, upgrading Luck in Clair Obscur will also slightly increase a character’s speed, making them play more often which, in addition to an increased crit chance, makes it an extremely useful points-sink.
Characters who have a lot of multi-hit attacks, such as Sciel and Monoco, can benefit especially from increased Luck, as crit chance is re-rolled for each individual hit.

Final Fantasy 10
Clair Obscur is heavily inspired by Final Fantasy 10, so perhaps it’s not surprising that they both offer particularly viable luck builds. As you might expect, Luck in FF10 influences a character’s critical hit chance, but it also boosts Evasion, the stat that determines how often a character can dodge an enemy’s attacks. On the other side of the coin, it boosts Accuracy, which is important considering the high dodge chance of some of Final Fantasy 10’s most slippery enemies. With a high base Luck and a buff from Rikku’s Luck ability, you can float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.
Bloodborne
Luck technically isn’t a stat in Bloodborne, but the Arcane stat plays much of the same role, with a higher Arcane rating scaling positively with item acquisition. This is vital for Bloodborne more than any other FromSoftware souls game since, as gamers the world over have lamented, parries and magic in Bloodborne cost Quicksilver Bullets, a limited resource that can be tough to find with low Arcane. Beyond bolstering your ammunition stores, a high Arcane stat will boost Blood Gem elemental damage, and many weapons are locked behind an Arcane stat requirement.
Although the game doesn’t do a great job of explaining it, Luck can be extremely useful in Metaphor ReFantazio. Namely, Luck is virtually essential for a Merchant build, as it has several attacks with an increased crit chance that stacks with the boost from Luck. If you’re looking to build out a support role, Luck can also be a boon, as its increase to item acquisition means more healing and buff items. It also makes ailment-based attacks more effective. Speaking of boons…

Hades 2
Hades 2 doesn’t have a dedicated luck stat, but rather a critical hit chance that can be upgraded through various means, including Boons, gear, and Familiars; since an increased crit chance is what most luck stats focus on, this is basically the same thing. At any rate, crit chance in Hades 2 can be overlooked in favor of more obvious buffs, but it provides a compelling path toward getting overpowered thanks to its various synergies: landing critical hits can confer useful bonuses to Melinoe, such as an increase to the God Gauge, and fast-attacking weapons like the Sister Blades and Black Coat can enjoy considerably higher DPS with a good crit chance. Throw in some Hitch boons for good measure, and a crit-heavy build will carry you gracefully to victory.
