How To Catch Magmar (& Magby) in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen
Magmar is one of the hardest Pokemon to get in FireRed & LeafGreen, since it can only be found in the LeafGreen Version, and in only a small patch of grass in a specific zone of the post-game: Mt. Ember.
This guide will teach players how they can get Magmar and Magby in both versions, and the exact spot where these Pokemon are located on the Sevii Islands.

How To Find Magmar in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen
To find Magmar in Pokemon LeafGreen (since it is a version exclusive) layers need to beat the Elite Four, then travel to the Sevii Islands. There’s a quest that will lead them to Mt. Ember in One Island, and in the very first area of Mt. Ember, there’s a small grassy patch where Magmar spawns at a 5% Rate. It is a rare and elusive Pokemon, so be patient and look around until it spawns.
Players in the FireRed version will need to trade with a LeafGreen buddy in order to get Magmar and Magby. And since there’s no remote trade, there’s no way around but to go and do it in person.
Unless, of course, players own two Nintendo Switch consoles, and a copy of LeafGreen and FireRed in each of those consoles (for example, players who have recently purchased a Switch 2, and still have their original Switch console). It is a roundabout method, but it might be the only way for those unwilling to move around and do things the old-fashioned way.
Now, for Magby, players need to catch Magmar first, then go to Four Island, where the Daycare is. Inside, players can breed Pokemon and, as they might have guessed by now, use the Ditto Method to breed them even if there’s only one individual of the species.
Magmar’s Egg is a particularly difficult Egg to hatch, since it belongs to Category 25 in terms of Hatching Cycles. That means players need to calculate around 256 Steps per Cycle, and 25 cycles give around 6400 steps in order to hatch Magby from the Egg.
Both Magmar and Magby are Fire-type Pokemon that have another evolution: Magmortar. Unfortunately, this Pokemon belongs to Gen IV, and is not available in FR/LG, as they are Gen III games.
