Used Copy of GTA 5 Comes With Nostalgic Surprise

By newsgame

After buying a used copy of Grand Theft Auto 5, one gamer found an original Atomic Blimp promotion code still inside the box. It’s been 12 years since Grand Theft Auto 5 hit the scene, and while the game still remains incredibly popular, this surprising find is a fun reminder of the game’s original marketing.

Despite its age, GTA 5 is still massively popular today, as both the base game and GTA Online have kept it going strong over the years. As the wait for GTA 6 continues, many have been going back to past entries or finally giving the franchise a try for the first time. GTA 5‘s continued popularity is a testament to how beloved the game is, and the days and weeks leading up to its launch over a decade ago were filled with some fun marketing, and a lucky gamer has stumbled across a nostalgic promotion.

GTA6 Collectors Edition Items Obvious

Grand Theft Auto 6’s Collector’s Edition Items Are Already Obvious

While leaks have supposedly detailed certain editions of Grand Theft Auto 6, the contents of its Collector’s Editions feel fairly predictable.

Reddit user Shaynrl took to the GTA subreddit to share the find. After buying a PS3 version of the game, they noticed that it still came with the original insert for the Atomic Blimp code. For those unaware, the Atomic Blimp code was a pre-order bonus that could be found in either digital pre-orders or early launch copies of GTA 5. As the promo card suggests, using the code gives players the ability to fly the Atomic Blimp immediately.

The Atomic Blimp marked the first time that players could control a blimp in the GTA franchise. While the aerial vehicle is incredibly slow and not exactly the most efficient way to get around Los Santos, it was a fun way to demonstrate how much more player freedom GTA 5 offered compared to past entries. What’s even more intriguing is that the promo code is completely unused, since the silver adhesive on the card hasn’t been scraped away.

Even though this seems like a small find at first, it’s a fascinating reminder of how far gaming has come since GTA 5 launched. The simple act of riding a blimp around Los Santos was seen by Rockstar as something worth using to entice players to pre-order. Now that a new chapter is on the way, it will be even more intriguing to see how GTA 5 compares to GTA 6 when it finally gets here. If GTA 5‘s blimp was interesting enough to use as promotion, it makes one wonder what Rockstar will use to promote GTA 6.
