Overwatch Just Gave Players Even More Reasons to Log In Throughout March
Overwatch just announced that every weekend in March will be a Double Match XP weekend to celebrate the game’s ongoing success. Now, Overwatch fans have even more incentive to log into the hero shooter, as if Reign of Talon Season 1 wasn’t enough.
February 10 marked a new era for Future Earth. The soft relaunch of Overwatch, now without the “2” in its title, included five new heroes, a refreshed UI, and the first segment of its new year-long seasonal story. The season was a huge hit, with Overwatch breaking player records on both Steam and Twitch during its opening weeks.
Double Match XP Weekends in Overwatch All March
Overwatch is celebrating this success all March long. According to a new post on Twitter, Blizzard has begun a special “Player Appreciation Boost,” granting Double Match XP every single weekend throughout the month of March:
- March 6–8
- March 13–15
- March 20–22
- March 27–29
Double Match XP multiplies the baseline Battle Pass XP Overwatch players earn from playing games. This typically averages between 700 and 1,000 XP, with more rewarded for victories or longer games. Playing in a group adds an extra 20% boost, and queuing for in-demand roles can grant between 100 and 500 extra XP on top of that, all multiplied by the Double XP bonus. Those who capitalize on all of these bonuses together can easily get over 2,000 Battle Pass XP for a single win.
This isn’t the first Double Match XP weekend Overwatch has held to celebrate its renewed success. From February 20 through February 23, Blizzard granted this bonus along with five free Loot Boxes. There are no extra Loot Boxes to claim this time, but the Double Match XP will return more frequently to compensate.
That said, there are still a few more days left to earn some extra Loot Boxes. Twitch Drops for Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1: Conquest are live through March 8, offering up to 10 free Loot Boxes – two of which are Legendary – simply by watching streamers on Twitch. However, it takes 13 hours to earn all of these rewards; as of press time, fewer than 55 hours remain until the campaign ends, so fans who haven’t started should begin watching soon.
What’s Next in Overwatch?
Presently, Overwatch is in the midst of its fourth week of the Conquest event. This headlining gameplay activity for Reign of Talon Season 1 has players align with either Overwatch or Talon in order to complete objectives, earn rewards, and prove their loyalty. The five-week event wraps up on March 17, meaning fans will soon see which faction will reign supreme, and consequently, which Echo skin will be granted to all players.
Talon won weeks one and three, while Overwatch won week two and is poised to win week four, meaning both sides are likely to be tied going into the final week.
Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1 is approaching its halfway point ahead of Season 2’s launch. The midseason update is expected to arrive on March 10 or March 17, bringing with it a slew of new hero balance adjustments, plus a Mythic hero skin for Mei. A new collaboration between Overwatch and Nier: Automata also kicks off on March 10, featuring Adam Lifeweaver, A2 Vendetta, 9S Wuyang, 2B Kiriko, and Commander White Mercy.
The second season of Overwatch’s Reign of Talon drops April 14, bringing with it even more surprises. A new story arc, potentially including a community event like Conquest, will arrive, along with another playable hero. Post-match accolades are coming back to the game, plus an official port for the Switch 2. Reworks to the Antarctic Peninsula map, Ramattra added to Stadium, and the Overwatch 10-year anniversary event are just some of the other features fans can expect in this upcoming update.
