Steam Users Have Until March 2 to Play Post-Apocalyptic Open-World Game 100% Free

By newsgame

Every week, Steam, Epic Games Store, and other available PC storefronts and sites make some games free. For example, Indie Gala is giving away a neon-soaked first-person shooter called Neon Phonk Robots for a limited time, while EGS users have a couple of days to claim a starter edition for MMOFPS STALCRAFT: X and visual novel Return to Ash for free. The latest free game on Steam is playable through March 2 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, at which time players will have to purchase it or abandon ship.

Age of Water is the Steam game in question, and should players decide to keep it, they can do so at a 60% discount. Age of Water is typically priced at $29.99, but can be purchased for $11.99 until March 2 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET as well. The Gold Edition is also 60% off and can be purchased for $19.99, and it includes the base game, 3000 Corks, 25000 Medallion, high-skilled crew members (Alter Ego, Kitty Sark, Jack Willey), and other exclusive content.

What is Age of Water, Steam’s Current Free Offering?

In simplest terms, it’s a post-apocalyptic open-world game where the Earth has been completely destroyed by water. People adapted and survived by turning roofs into homes, creating boats of all sizes from leftover debris, and searching for real land where they could be safe. Players, together, sail through storms, fight and trade, capture and build boats, acquire extra resources from the bottom of the ocean, and investigate world-destroying secrets. It’s very similar to games like Sea of Thieves, although with a completely different art style.

  • POST-APOCALYPTIC OPEN-WORLD consumed by water, where players can explore the world at their own pace.
  • BUILD OR CAPTURE SHIPS with hundreds of unique options ranging from weapons and armor to hulls and crewmembers
  • NAVAL BATTLES against pirates and all manner of enemies
  • CREATE A NAVAL BASE from production factories to a much-needed shelter
  • PvP and PvE COMBAT against computer opponents early on and optional PvP later on

Age of Water is also described as a “true open-world game” where players can explore to their leisure (or urgency). They can discover new settlements, meet an array of interesting NPCs, and complete tasks, conduct trade, or search for treasure and artifacts to their pirate hearts’ content. As players spend more time in this world, they are slowly introduced to more and more features—including the ability to impact it by establishing their own base with research and building features not unlike games like Satisfactory.

Of course, the seas of Age of Water are not safe with pirates and, eventually, other players potentially being a nuisance. Players can craft simple boats into warships thanks to the game’s intensive ship creation and customization features to combat them. With dozens of hulls and hundreds of parts, players can make just about anything they can imagine to explore the world with. Other players are doing the same, incentivizing players to master these systems. PvP is limited early on, but as players become more established on the seas, they’ll have to deal with aggressive players who pursue and chase them. Players can either sink their opponents or take the ship for themselves, one of the best features in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. They’ll find safety in their own personal naval base, should they get away, which can also serve as a factory for ships and all manner of resources.

Overall, it’s a tried-and-true formula but also a game soaring due to this free week period. It’s been out for a year and has Mostly Positive reviews for the entire time, as well as recent reviews. Existing players should see this free period as a shot in the arm, and of course, those who play it and enjoy it can pick it up at a low price. It’s a win-win for the existing player base and those who newly check it out.
