New Farming Sim on Steam Blends Cyberpunk Dystopia With High-Tech Agriculture
Farming sims have been around for over 30 years now, but they’ve been more popular than ever lately, after games like Stardew Valley helped reignite a passion for the genre. Since then, developers have been churning them out left and right, attempting to expand on what already works, even if it means experimenting with different genres. One of the latest is an indie farming sim on Steam by FreeMind S.A. called Cyber Farmer that puts a hilarious twist on the genre while somehow retaining some of its most traditional roots in the process.
Coming February 26, 2026 to Steam Early Access, Cyber Farmer drops players into a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk dystopia and hands them some high-tech tools and machines to keep their farm running. It’s clearly self-aware, fully embracing the strange and the weird with “cyber pigs, mutated crops, and a lot of laughs.” In fact, it leans so heavily into spoof territory that even the font and color of its logo is identical to Cyberpunk 2077‘s. Still, despite being a bit of a joke in many ways, Cyber Farmer looks like it has some solid gameplay going for it that should appeal to fans of the farming sim genre.
Cyber Farmer Is Like Running a Farm in a Hilarious Cyberpunk, Fallout World
In its efforts not to take itself seriously in almost every way, Cyber Farmer goes all in on blatant imitation. Firstly, it continues the tradition once commonly associated with the farming sim genre of taking over your grandfather’s farm—grandpa Kazimierz, in this case. This isn’t some pleasant, vibrant town you’ve just moved into though. No, Cyber Farmer is set in a world devastated by war that looks almost indistinguishable from certain parts of Fallout‘s Wasteland, complete with irradiated environments, though the cyberpunk touch does give it a unique flair. Apart from that, it’s absurd, quirky, and just an all-around bizarre experience for a farming sim.
Cyber Farmer’s Core Gameplay Features
- FUTURISTIC CYBER TECH — use high-tech gadgets and cybernetic tools to upgrade and run your farm.
- POST-APOCALYPTIC SETTING — farm in a world devastated by war where old meets new.
- GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS — grow and experiment with mutated plants unique to this future.
- CYBER PIG ANIMALS — raise cyber pigs and other unusual creatures as part of farm life.
- HILARIOUS GAMEPLAY MOMENTS — enjoy absurd, funny, and unexpected farm experiences.
- QUIRKY FARM CHARACTERS — encounter strange personalities and surprises across your farm.
- FAMILY LEGACY STORY — continue the farming tradition as Kazimierz’s grandson.
Silliness and all, Cyber Farmer still appears to revolve around the gameplay loop that has defined farming sims for decades: plant, tend, harvest, and expand. However, instead of traditional watering cans and wooden plows, players use cybernetic tools and high-tech machinery to optimize production. Genetically modified crops can add an experimental layer to planting, potentially encouraging players to experiment with different growth methods and outcomes rather than sticking to predictable harvest cycles. Raising livestock also takes on a sci-fi twist with cyber pigs and other augmented animals, making Cyber Farmer‘s farm management more like running a dystopian lab than a quaint countryside homestead.
But its ability to be absurd and yet remain rooted in tradition could be what sets Cyber Farmer apart in the increasingly crowded farming sim space. While it may be heavily parodic on the surface, it still sees players chasing upgrades, improving efficiency on their farm, and gradually transforming the family farm into something profitable. The post-apocalyptic setting certainly changes the aesthetics and even the type of characters players will interact with, but the core progression loop is still the same old recognizable structure of a farming sim.
What to Expect From Cyber Farmer Early Access
- COMMUNITY-DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT FEEDBACK — players are encouraged to influence new features, mechanics, and content through direct input.
- 6–12 MONTH ROADMAP WINDOW — the team anticipates up to a year in Early Access, though timing depends on player feedback and overall progress.
- MAJOR AND MINOR UPDATES — expect larger content drops alongside smaller patches targeting specific mechanics and improvements.
- MORE PLANTS AND ANIMALS — the full version aims to expand activities, introduce new crop types, and add more breeding options.
- FULLY PLAYABLE BUILD NOW — Early Access launches in a complete, playable state rather than a barebones prototype.
- GRADUAL PRICE INCREASE PLAN — pricing is expected to rise over time as new features and content are added.
If any of what Cyber Farmer is bringing to the table sounds interesting, then interested parties can consider themselves lucky, because the game’s Steam Early Access launch is right around the corner. There is already a demo available for the game, but on February 26, 2026, players will get to dive into Cyber Farmer to get the full experience, as it is launching in a complete and playable state. That being said, while it will launch in Early Access as a full game, the developer won’t consider it “complete” until it leaves Early Access, which is where the players come in.
The developer’s current plans for Early Access include eventually adding “more of everything—new activities, methods of growing plants, new plants, and animals for breeding.” However, the purpose for Cyber Farmer going through Early Access is ultimately so the developer can “maintain our close relationship with the community as we continue to implement more and more features by tinkering with the mechanics.” As such, the players will be directly involved in the game’s development, from offering feedback on what is already there to contributing ideas of what could be added. Then, both major and minor content updates will regularly roll out, seeing Cyber Farmer inch ever closer to its 1.0 release.
It should be noted that Cyber Farmer‘s price will increase as more content is added to the game, so committed players might be better off investing earlier rather than later.
At the end of the day, Cyber Farmer‘s biggest strength might be its confidence. It is goofy, self-aware, and leaning hard into parody, but underneath the neon wasteland and cyber pigs is a gameplay loop farming sim fans already understand and enjoy. If FreeMind S.A. can keep building on that foundation during Early Access and actually make those mutated crops and high-tech tools feel like something worth investing more in over time, Cyber Farmer could be more than just a funny gimmick. It might end up being one of the more memorable twists the genre has seen in a while, even if it looks like it crawled straight out of a Fallout side quest.
