Resident Evil Requiem Producer Confirms ‘Characters From The Past Series’

By newsgame

Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa confirms that the upcoming game will feature more characters from the past, though stops short of confirming any heavily rumored ones. With a February release date slowly approaching, Capcom has been a bit more forthcoming with Resident Evil Requiem details, leading to plenty of fan speculation.

Ever since the game’s original announcement and the fact that Resident Evil Requiem is returning to Raccoon City, fans have been curious to discover any sort of possible connections to the franchise as a whole. Capcom has already confirmed that protagonist Grace is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, who’s now working for the FBI to investigate strange deaths at the same Wrenwood Hotel where her mother died under suspicious circumstances eight years prior. Naturally, this leads to a series of events players will have to overcome as Grace. Still, the connection to Outbreak and the events of Resident Evil 3 may not be the only connections players will be discovering.

The developers of Resident Evil Requiem reveal that the team considered putting Grace through one of Ethan’s most traumatic moments.

Resident Evil Requiem Will Feature Characters From Past Games

In a recent interview with Well Played, Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa was directly asked if fans could expect to see more characters specifically from Outbreak. Kumazawa essentially confirms that “some characters from the past” will appear but quickly warns fans to not overhype or expect too much. He goes on to admit he can’t promise anything but further confirms that there will be characters that are involved in the Raccoon City incident being involved in the game’s story.

Resident Evil Requiem May Offer the Freedom of Choice, But There's Clearly a Favorite Child

Thankfully, Kumazawa said that Resident Evil fans don’t need to replay Outbreak to understand what’s happening in Requiem as understanding that Grace is Alyssa’s daughter is more than enough knowledge to start with. Considering how old Resident Evil Outbreak is, having been released for the PS2 back in 2004, it may be difficult for many fans to get their hands on a copy or even play it.

Resident Evil Requiem May Be Stuck in a Catch-22 After the Recent Leak

While Kumazawa stops well short of confirming any fan theories, it seems clear that the producer’s warnings are probably targeting the current rumors swirling around the game. There have been constant rumors for months indicating that fan-favorite Leon Kennedy will be featured in Resident Evil Requiem in some way. There have even been leaks that have revealed an older and more grizzled look to Leon. Either way, Capcom isn’t giving into the rumors, with Masato Kumazawa having called the Leon speculation “fake news” and called into question the legitimacy of the images.

Kumazawa has been busy as of late, taking on numerous interviews and talking about some new features for the game. Specifically, the producer revealed that Resident Evil Requiem was originally a multiplayer game during the start of its 6-year development cycle and that the prototyped version was actually pretty fun. While the team eventually pivoted to a classic single-player horror experience, Kumazawa admitted that some elements from the original multiplayer build were actually brought forward into the current version of the game. Unfortunately, Kumazawa didn’t provide any additional details on what made the move, so for now, fans will need to wait until February 27, 2026, to find out for themselves.
