Highguard Confirms New Content Update Coming This Week

By newsgame

Wildlight Entertainment has announced that it will be releasing a brand-new content update for Highguard later this week, bringing a new base, a new raid tool, and new store offerings to the shooter. The upcoming update, which currently has no exact release date, will focus purely on new content for Highguard, but Wildlight says it is also working on a second patch that will not only include a new game mode but will also bring some balance adjustments to weapons, among other things.

It’s been a rocky few weeks for Highguard and the Wildlight team. After making its big reveal during the coveted final spot of last year’s Game Awards ceremony, Highguard launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on January 26. With industry veterans known for titles like Apex Legends and Call of Duty at the helm, the pressure was on to deliver another beloved shooter. Unfortunately, Highguard has received largely underwhelming reviews and is now struggling to maintain even 1,000 concurrent players on Steam after peaking at over 97,000 at launch.

Highguard needs these updates if it wants to challenge the big hero shooters that dominate the gaming scene.

Highguard Adding New Content Later This Week

Despite a huge drop-off in players, those who remain at Wildlight Entertainment following mass layoffs are committed to bringing further updates to the controversial shooter. In a new post on Twitter, the studio confirmed that it plans to release a new patch this week focused on delivering new content to the game. The update will add a new base known as Cloudreach, which features a large airship docked high above the ground, with the Anchor Stone in the cargo hold of the ship itself. The deck surrounding the airship overlooks the entire area, giving defenders an elevated position to snipe from, but allows quick repositioning to both generator rooms, where combat quickly turns close quarters.

This week’s new Highguard update will also see the addition of a new raid tool: the lockpick. Wildlight says the lockpick is a powerful new raid tool that quickly fires darts that open doors and windows, temporarily disabling them for the enemy and giving control to your team. Finally, there will also be new store offerings, as Wildlight saysTrader Flynn will now offer 7 items every week instead of 5. A new mount with 4 different variants will be available to purchase this week, as well as 4 new bundles.

News of a new update will likely come as a surprise to many, as there was plenty of speculation that Highguard‘s servers were about to be taken offline after the game’s website mysteriously went down a few days ago. However, a developer promptly shut down the rampant theories and revealed that the Highguard website is merely because it is in the process of being transferred and simplified. They went on to explain how it is currently a low priority for the team as they are focusing on new updates and content for the shooter.

It’s unclear how much longer Highguard can be kept alive with such a small player base and minimal developers now working on the game, but there’s no denying that Wildlight is remaining committed to the project. One of players’ biggest complaints about Highguard was that the size of its maps did not feel suited to 3v3 matches. In response, Wildlight promptly released a permanent 5v5 mode, but it, sadly, hasn’t been enough to keep players interested. Nevertheless, the remaining employees are still working on new updates, with another patch already in the works, which will bring a new game mode focused on the Raid experience, as well as some balance adjustments to weapons, among other things.
