Bayonetta-Like ‘Tides of Annihilation’ Reveals Inception-Esque Boss Fight

By newsgame

A new Tides of Annihilation trailer is here, having premiered during the November 20 Xbox Partner Preview showcase. The video offers another look at the game’s fantasy setting, Inception-like dimension hopping, and distinctive combat system that will have Tides of Annihilation players switching between different playable knights.

Developed by Chinese studio Eclipse Glow Games, Tides of Annihilation is an upcoming action adventure that was announced during the February 2025 State of Play showcase. It features flashy, fast-paced combat reminiscent of Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, and Astral Chain. The game is set across two locations: modern London, devastated by an event known as the “Outworld invasion,” and the mythical island of Avalon from Arthurian legend.

Tides of Annihilation Looks Like a Fantasy Game for Stellar Blade Fans

Unveiled at Sony’s recent State of Play, Tides of Annihilation looks to be serving up action-RPG fundamentals similar to Stellar Blade’s.

Tides of Annihilation Showcases Dimension-Shifting Boss Fight

Eclipse Glow Games took part in the latest Xbox Partner Preview showcase, where it premiered another trailer for its upcoming title. The four-minute video reveals new Tides of Annihilation gameplay, including a dramatic boss fight in which the protagonist—Gwendolyn—shifts between different dimensions. The Inception-like Mirror Space set-piece has her fighting alongside Knight Lamorak, slipping between twin realities to pressure a shape-shifting boss called Tyronoe, The Ferryman.

The multi-character control mechanic is part of the so-called Dual Frontline Battle system, designed to let players command two fighters and chain attacks while simultaneously switching between dimensions. The overall fight is presented in a cinematic manner, with a Bayonetta-like tempo and fast-paced dodging. Tyronoe appears to have clearly telegraphed moves that even players who aren’t too experienced with the action genre may be able to learn in a reasonable amount of time. It is currently unclear whether the rest of Tides of Annihilation will be equally accessible. The developer did not specify how far into the game the Tyronoe encounter occurs.

Tides of Annihilation Confirmed as Xbox Play Anywhere Title

Apart from showcasing new Tides of Annihilation gameplay, Eclipse Glow used the November 20 Xbox Partner Preview event as an opportunity to confirm that its upcoming title will be part of the Xbox Play Anywhere program. This will make it playable across the Xbox Series X/S and PC with a single purchase. The action-adventure game has also been previously announced as a day-one PlayStation 5 release.

Shortly following its February 2025 reveal, Tides of Annihilation accidentally went on sale on the Xbox Store for an unusual price of $22.49. The inadvertent listing was quickly removed, and Microsoft began refunding all buyers by early March. The game’s official price has yet to be confirmed, though given its high production values, it is expected to be significantly higher than the erroneous listing. The Tides of Annihilation Steam page has listed the title as “coming soon” since February, with Eclipse Glow yet to provide a more specific release timeframe.
