Mewgenics Save Scum Easter Egg Explained
Easter eggs are nothing new in video games. These hidden secrets reward players for doing something out of the ordinary, or venturing to the most tucked away corners of their worlds. In Mewgenics, however, there’s an easter egg for players that save scum their way through the game to avoid dying and losing their precious cats. What unfolds is one of the funniest and most interesting easter eggs you’ll likely come across in video games this year. Here’s everything you need to know about how to save scum in Mewgenics, what the easter egg is, and what happens if you continue to save scum over and over to reach the ‘final version’ of the easter egg.
How to Get More Food in Mewgenics
Food is important for keeping your army of cats in fighting fit condition, but it’s not an infinite resource. Here’s how to get more food in Mewgenics
How to Save Scum in Mewgenics
Save scumming is the process of force closing a game to avoid dying or failing a mission or task. In Mewgenics, this entails you force closing the game during a battle so you can reload the game and still have the cats you took out on your adventure that may have otherwise died in battle.
As such, to save scum in Mewgenics, you simply need to force close the game using either Alt + F4, or right-clicking on the game’s icon on your task bar and selecting the ‘Close Window’ option. This will prevent you from failing a run and allow you to try the battle again.
Then reload the game, and you should continue at an earlier stage, allowing you to try the battle or run you were on again.
If you’d like to enjoy the easter egg spoiler-free, I’d advise turning back now and going ahead and save scumming in Mewgenics a few times. I haven’t revealed the full extent of the easter egg, but some may still consider it a spoiler of sorts.
What Is the Mewgenics Save Scum Easter Egg?
When you first save scum in Mewgenics, you’ll be greeted by Steven, a boss from the Binding of Isaac and the main character from the The End Is Nigh, and Time Fcuk, all of which are other games from Edmund McMillen.
He’ll give you a warning the first time and say after that the gloves are off. You’ll then get two more humorous encounters with Steven where he warns you… in a rather rude way. On the second time, he’ll lower the IQ of one of your cats. Continue to save scum and you’ll reach the final warning and Steven’s punishment.
On the fourth time of save scumming, Steven will tell you he warned you, and that if you really wanted him to play the game then you should have just asked. Your game will then load up and when you choose the battle you keep skipping, Steven will take control of your cats.
It’s a funny little way of pointing out that cheapening the experience can go both ways, and is another example of the humor that McMillen has poured into Mewgenics.
