What Happens If You Fail a Run in Mewgenics? Explained

By newsgame

Mewgenics is a bit of a blend of genres, taking the popular roguelite mechanics and blending them with turn-based strategy. It’s a wonderful combination with a crude overlay that makes playing for hours on end pretty darn easy. When it comes to going on a long run to progress through the game, however, you may be conscious that you’re going to struggle to beat a boss battle with your cats in a sorry state going into it. If this sounds like you, and you want to know what your options are, you’re in the right place. Here’s what happens if you fail a run in Mewgenics, and whether that ‘Abandon Adventure’ option can help avoid a costly failed run.

All Cat Stats in Mewgenics (& What They Do)

As you venture further from home in Mewgenics, you’ll need to take on tougher enemies. That means you’ll need cats with better stats.

What Happens If You Fail a Run in Mewgenics?

If all of your cats die on a run in Mewgenics, then you will fail the run, and they will all die permanently and won’t return home. Any coins, food, or items that they’d gathered on their adventure will also be lost, essentially meaning you’ve lost everything that you had with you, and you’ll need to spend any food you had before you left to keep your remaining cats alive and spend some time breeding more and waiting for strays to appear each day (if you don’t have enough adult cats to immediately go back out on an adventure).

You’ll eventually unlock the ability to see a mysterious zombie-like character (who eventually takes on your username as his own name), who will give you the option to get either coins or food you gathered during a failed run.

This can be especially brutal during the early stages of the game, where you’re still leveling up your cats, breeding some superior specimens, and learning the ropes of combat.

Eagle-eyed players may have noticed that there’s an ‘Abandon Adventure’ option in the game’s pause menu. While this might seem like the best way to return to the comfort of your home with your cats, items, food, and money intact, unfortunately, it doesn’t change how things will pan out for you.

When you select the option, the game will inform you that abandoning the adventure will cause you to lose the cats, items, food, money, and furniture you’ve found during that run.

As such, the only way to return home with all of your cats and anything you’ve acquired during the run is to beat the boss battle. When you’re then given the option to return home or proceed onward through the next part of the act, you’ll want to choose to return home. This way, you can keep your cats with the best stats to breed from.
