Best Mystic Arts to Unlock First in Where Winds Meet

While there are many Mystic Arts for you to find, a handful of them stand out as incredibly useful early on in Where Winds Meet, both for exploration and combat. Here are six of the best ones you should unlock first:

Celestial Seize

Where Winds Meet Celestial Seize

How to Get

Effect

Learned from Qiu Yuehai at Heaven’s Pier, next to the suspicious drinking contest during the “Foul Play” quest.

Steal items and open containers from a distance. It can also be used to disarm enemies in combat.

Celestial Seize is one of the most entertaining Mystic Arts in the entire game. It lets you pull items toward you without ever getting close. It works on chests, on NPCs, and even on enemies, letting you swipe their weapon and fling it back at them in the middle of battle.

You can get this Art early on when you reach Heaven’s Pier. Speak to Qiu Yuehai, who complains about cheating in the local drinking contest. After he teaches you Celestial Seize, use it to steal the Nullifying Pill behind Hu Wei. Then, challenge him to explore the cheating and finish the quest.

Meridian Touch

How to Get

Effect

Taught by Yan Qiren in Stonewash Strand.

Immobilizes enemies, drains their Qi gauge, and breaks vital spots.

Meridian Touch is a really versatile art. In combat, it can freeze enemies in place, giving you a huge advantage. Outside of combat, it can be used for quirky interactions, like soothing itchy peasants or stopping martial artists mid–movement.

You can unlock it very early during your first trip through Stonewash Strand. You’ll see several people turned to stone. Here, speak to the statue of Yan Qiren. After he teaches you the skill, try using the “immobilize” option on him. Doing so will free him from petrification.

Leaping Toad

Where Winds Meet Leaping Toad

How to Get

Effect

Learned through Skill Theft from the golden toad at General’s Shrine.

Leap forward to slam enemies, flip backward to knock them away, and inflict venom when chained.

If you want to be fast, flashy, and stronger, Leaping Toad is the Mystic Art for you. The Art mimics all the movements of a toad: bounding forward, flipping back, and spreading venom when used twice in a row.

The golden toad you need is found directly at General’s Shrine. Look for the man crouched in a toad-like pose. After you speak to him, perform Skill Theft on the golden toad nearby to learn the Art.

Cloud Steps

Where Winds Meet Cloud Steps

How to Get

Effect

Found inside the hidden underground passage beneath the General’s Shrine.

Leap onto marked spots, vault over enemies, and stomp on their shoulder to deal damage.

Cloud Steps is one of the best mobility Mystic Arts in Where Winds Meet. It functions almost like a magical grapple, letting you reach high ledges instantly. In combat, Cloud Steps let you spring over enemies and slam down on them, dealing some damage in the process.

This can be found while exploring beneath the General’s Shrine. Start by climbing onto the roof, then drop onto a cracked stone floor using Mighty Drop, and work your way through the underground area. Burn as many vines as you can, blow up barrels, and eventually you’ll reach a corpse holding the Cloud Steps manual.

Lion’s Roar

Where Winds Meet Lion’s Roar

How to Get

Effect

Earned by ringing four copper bells scattered throughout Qinghe.

Slam down a giant bell, then unleash a shockwave of sound that knocks back and disorients enemies.

Lion’s Roar is as dramatic as it sounds. This Mystic Art is straight out of a classic kung fu movie. You summon a massive bell, then roar through it to blast enemies in front of you. To unlock Lion’s Roar, you need to find and ring four bells. After finding and ringing all four, the Lion’s Roar will be yours.

Tai Chi

Where Winds Meet Tai Chi-1

How to Get

Effect

Obtained at the beginning of the game through the Wayfarer Echo Jade, then learned from the bear using Skill Theft.

Redirect an enemy’s force, throw them long distances, and interact with the environment.

Tai Chi is the first Mystic Art many players unlock, and it remains one of the most practical. This Mystic Art lets you redirect an enemy’s momentum, sending them flying into walls or off cliffs.

You unlock it as part of the early Skill Theft tutorial when you encounter the bear. Mimicking the bear’s movements teaches you the Art.
