Epic Games Makes Fortnite Cheater Apologize

By newsgame

Epic Games has taken legal action against a player who was found to be cheating in Fortnite, banning the offender in both the popular battle royale and the company’s wider ecosystem. Fortnite is currently in the middle of Chapter 7 Season 1, which has featured a wide variety of crossovers with properties like Kill Bill, Back to the Future, South Park, and more.

The battle royale’s latest update introduced a collaboration between Fortnite and Chappell Roan, a popular singer who won Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards in 2025. While gamers can purchase some of Chappell Roan’s cosmetics in the Item Shop, players who want everything will need to pick up the Music Pass tied to the game mode Fortnite Festival. The collaboration includes new skins, jam tracks, emotes, and even a sidekick inspired by the artist’s hit song “Pink Pony Club.” Even though Epic Games tends to keep things light and fun with its collaborations, the company has taken a much more serious approach to addressing cheating within the live-service title.

Fortnite Teases Surprise Crossover With Honkai: Star Rail

Fortnite is hinting at an unexpected crossover with Honkai: Star Rail arriving to the game soon, potentially teasing some featured characters.

In a recent post on Twitter, Epic Games issued an update on its effort to eliminate cheating in Fortnite. The post claims that Epic Games found and took legal action against a player who had been cheating and carrying out DDoS attacks on Fortnite‘s servers. At the bottom of the post, Epic Games included a statement put out by ELVARFN, the player who was caught cheating. In the post, ELVARFN apologizes for their actions and fully admits to both cheating and engaging in actions that “targeted players and disrupted their games.” The disgraced player then goes on to say that they “understand that this conduct is against the law and breaks Fortnite’s rules.” They also confirmed that they have been banned from both Fortnite and all of Epic’s services and games.

This isn’t the first time Epic Games has forced a cheater to issue a public apology to the community, as something similar occurred in February 2025 with another player who was caught cheating in a tournament. Morgan Bamford, who is perhaps better known as RepulseGod, cheated in order to qualify for the FNCS 2023 Global Championship. The tournament featured a four-million-dollar prize pool, meaning that stakes were high for everyone looking to take home some money. While Bamford didn’t use cheating software, they did share their account with another player to gain entry into the tournament, which is against Fortnite‘s rules. After Epic Games took legal action, the company compelled Bamford to issue a public apology to the Fortnite community. They were also forced to donate all of their winnings to charity.

In June 2025, Epic Games announced that a judge had ruled in the company’s favor against Sebastian Araujo, yet another player who had been caught cheating. After the player tried to ignore the lawsuit, a judge ruled that the cheater would have to pay $175,000 in fines. Epic Games stated that it would be donating the money from the fine to charity. The cheater was also permanently banned from Fortnite, preventing them from breaking the rules again in the future. Epic Games’ actions show that the company is dedicated to preventing cheating within the Fortnite community, which is extremely important for any live-service title.

When cheating becomes rampant within a multiplayer game, it can drive away large portions of the community who feel they aren’t competing on a level playing field. Epic Games’ aggressive approach to finding, banning, and taking legal action against cheaters has shown the community it’s serious about keeping things fair in the popular battle royale. Despite some issues with cheaters, many fans are feeling optimistic about the future of Fortnite.
