The Brotherhood of Steel’s Plan for Season 3 is Missing a Key Component

By newsgame

This article contains major spoilers for Fallout Season 2’s finale.

The Season 2 finale of Fallout delivered a thrilling conclusion while also leaving a ton of room for Season 3 to explore the loose threads left hanging. With The Ghouls setting off toward Colorado, the emergence of The Enclave as a new threat, and Lucy and Maximus reunited in the midst of two major faction wars, Fallout Season 3 will likely start with a bang. However, the teaser shown after the credits sets up The Brotherhood of Steel to potentially be the most impactful player of next season, if they can pull off an incredible feat.

The post-credits scene for Fallout Season 2’s finale shows Elder Quintus, having survived Maximus’ assassination attempt, preparing for the civil war brewing within The Brotherhood of Steel. In an effort to get the upper hand against the Commonwealth branch of the Brotherhood, Quintus unveils blueprints for Liberty Prime Alpha as his secret weapon. While this is where the teaser ends, it’s implied that Quintus is in the process of building the new variant of Liberty Prime, which may be a challenge to complete given the Brotherhood’s history with the weapon.

Fallout Season 3’s Liberty Prime Alpha Won’t Be Complete Without Dr. Madison Li

Liberty Prime is an icon of the Fallout series, first debuting in Fallout 3 during the climax of the game’s main storyline. This massive bipedal robot was used as a weapon by the US Army’s Strategic Arms Division during the Great War, and is known for its towering stature and penchant for spouting anti-communist propaganda. The Brotherhood of Steel’s Capital Wasteland chapter, led by Elder Lyons, attempted to repair and restore Liberty Prime to use against the Enclave, but was unsuccessful prior to utilizing Dr. Madison Li’s work on portable fusion technology to re-power the robot.

Liberty Prime reappeared in Fallout 4, when it was deployed from aboard the Prydwen to be used against the Institute.

Madison Li’s Role in Fallout 3

Fallout 3 Madison Li Rivet City

Liberty Prime would not have been capable of aiding the Lone Wanderer and The Brotherhood of Steel in their assault on the Enclave in the finale of Fallout 3 without the help of Madison Li. Players initially encounter Li in Fallout 3‘s Rivet City, where she aids the Lone Wanderer in their quest to find their father and revive Project Purity. After losing control of Project Purity to the Enclave, Li worked with Scribe Rothchild and The Brotherhood of Steel to repair Liberty Prime for use against the Enclave. It turned out that Li’s work on portable fusion technology was the key to finding the immense energy needed to power Liberty Prime, which Rothchild was unable to produce without her help.

Why The Brotherhood of Steel Might Struggle with Liberty Prime in Fallout Season 3

With the Commonwealth chapter of the Brotherhood likely still in possession of the Liberty Prime from Fallout 4, it seems like Elder Quintus is determined to recreate this war machine for himself to give the Knights of San Fernando a fighting chance in the looming civil war. However, Quintus is likely going to run into the same problem as Elder Lyons in Fallout 3 in ensuring that they can create a power source capable of providing enough energy to Liberty Prime in a portable form. While Elder Lyons was able to successfully power Liberty Prime with the help of Madison Li’s research, Quintus doesn’t have the luxury.

It’s possible that Madison Li is still alive in the timeline of the Fallout TV show; she was last seen in Fallout 4 as a member of the Institute, which players could align with in the game’s finale. In the event that Li has died in the time since Fallout 4, or is unavailable due to being on the East Coast, Quintus may opt to try and obtain the cold fusion diode to use as a power source for Liberity Prime Alpha. The diode was last seen in the Lucky 38 powering Mr. House’s AI backup, so it’s possible that The Brotherhood of Steel may invade the Strip in an attempt to seize this diode in Fallout Season 3.
