The Best Power Rangers Games
Power Rangers defined a generation of kids in the ’90s and spawned dozens of sequels, spiritual successors, and spin-offs. Famously based on Super Sentai, the Western version combines that Japanese show’s action with new characters and an American setting. Although Super Sentai was decades old by the time Power Rangers debuted, both franchises are still airing fresh content, and that seems unlikely to change anytime soon.
Best Power Rangers Series, Ranked
From the Mighty Morphin to Ninjas and Samurai, the best Power Rangers seasons offer great mecha action and awesome characters,
As was the case with many popular shows aimed at kids, live-action or otherwise, there have been tie-in games to the various Power Rangers seasons and movies. Considering the series was a cultural phenomenon for a while, there really aren’t that many Power Rangers games, and most of the ones that exist are pretty bad. Still, let’s go through the best of the best.
We are only including Power Rangers games, so no Super Sentai releases that never came out in Western countries. We’re also avoiding mobile games, as most of them are not playable anymore. Power Rangers: Legacy Wars and Power Rangers Mighty Force are still active, though, if somebody wants to try them.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
An All-Time Classic That Fires On All Levels
- Platform: SNES
- Released: November 23, 1994
- Publisher: Bandai
Multiple Mighty Morphin Power Rangers games debuted in 1994, all on separate systems and all different. In this case, we are talking about the SNES version, which is a fairly standard side-scroller for the time. Players can be any of the five Power Rangers, like Trini or Billy, and most levels begin with the heroes in their street clothes. Characters transform automatically into their Power Rangers forms about halfway through a stage, and boss battles are mostly fought on foot except for big climactic moments with the true Megazord.
The game was made by Natsume, a studio that made reliable tie-in games based on other licenses. The art was always on par with the best out there, along with their music. The same is true for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on the SNES, which is a solid love letter to the original season that delivers decent but unspectacular action. There is no reason to play this if you are not a die-hard fan, but anybody reading this article should give it a try.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition
A Respectable Giant Robot Fighting Game
In what could have been a risky move, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition decided to completely forego the Rangers themselves, instead opting to focus on giant robots and, technically, kaijus. Although unlikely to keep the attention of fighting game veterans, this SNES classic is a must-play for big Power Rangers fans, and they won’t need to suffer through a hard-as-nails slog to get anything out of this one.
10 Best Red Power Rangers, Ranked
The Red Rangers are usually the strongest and most capable members of every Power Rangers team, but that isn’t always the case.
The Fighting Edition is the definition of a “gets the job done” game. It doesn’t do anything particularly well, but it mostly avoids major pitfalls that would have made it difficult to recommend. The combat is a bit too straightforward for its own good, but it is elevated by decent animation. The Story Mode is effectively an Arcade Mode with brief cutscenes, and it captures that Power Rangers charm pretty well. Honestly, the game’s biggest issue is that you can only use the two Megazords in Story Mode, meaning you will run out of things to do fairly quickly.

Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid
A Fighting Game For Fans
Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is cool from a pitch level alone because it is essentially a sequel to the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season. In an alternate universe, Tommy kills Rita and most of the Power Rangers and forms a new band to wreak hell on Earth. He calls himself Lord Drakkon, and Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid begins with his invasion of the original season’s world.
It’s a three-on-three fighting game similar to the Marvel Vs. Capcom series is complete with character assists. The core game was released without many characters, which didn’t help its early reception. However, as seasons went on, more characters and content were added, making for a fuller fan-service experience. Players could even be Ryu or Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series, which was weird but also fitting.
At this point, Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid‘s online scene is mostly dead, so we can only really take the single-player content into account. The Story Mode is fun enough, but it finishes quickly and doesn’t have replayvalue. The Arcade mode is fine, but it is quite simple. Still, Battle for the Grid‘s combat system is pretty great for a smaller scale fighting game, and I would almost recommend it solely for that. Just get it on a discount.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (SNES)
As Good As Its Predecessor But With Co-Op
- Platform: SNES
- Released: June 23, 1995
- Publisher: Bandai
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is another game that had multiple wildly different versions, and the SNES one is arguably the most enjoyable nowadays. Similar in quality to its SNES predecessor, MMPW The Movie is a fun side-scrolling action game. However, what puts this one above the first game is co-op, which really elevates the experience. You might need that help, too, as the sequel is really hard.
For some, that extra challenge was a plus to put their skills to the test. Another plus was that players could transform anytime once they filled their meter up, and all other chargers after that were character-specific attacks. The roster offered some returning heroes along with some new ones from the movie and the second season, like Adam.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind
The Best Power Ranges Game To Play Now
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is difficult to rank. If you are looking for a Power Rangers game to play right now, Rita’s Rewind should be your first pick, and an argument could be made that it is your only option. Putting aside some mobile exclusives, this 2024 title is the franchise’s only project of the 2020s so far, and it is definitely the best console game since probably the ’90s. Removed from that context, Rita’s Rewind is a slightly above-average beat ’em up that could have been better.
10 Greatest Power Rangers of All Time (#1 is Best of the Best)
The Power Rangers have had some amazing additions over the years, but only one can be considered the best of the best.
Straight away, do not go in expecting something on the level of TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge or Marvel Cosmic Invasion, as you will be setting yourself up for disappointment. However, if you are just looking for a fun tribute to the original series, this game should deliver without any issues. While best played in co-op, Rita’s Rewind can be played solo, where you can pick from 6 characters. The combat is punchy and accessible, and it is solid enough to warrant multiple playthroughs.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Game Gear)
The Best Power Rangers Game (Or, At Least, The Most Surprisingly Good)
- Platform: Game Gear
- Released: 1995
- Publisher: SIMS
Power Rangers was oddly great on Game Gear. This version of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is mostly a pure fighting game, and it is a pretty impressive one for a mid-1990s release on a handheld console. The visuals look fairly decent, while the combat is satisfying and challenging. Even the music is top-notch and should fill any long-time fans with nostalgia.
In the story mode, you play through a few stages, going back and forth between controlling a Ranger and a Megazord. The routine and gameplay loop are simple, but they work well and ensure the campaign doesn’t overstay its welcome. Although not wildly different, the Rangers feel different enough from each other to warrant playing through the campaign multiple times.
