Where Winds Meet: Qianye Boss Fight Guide
Qianye is one of the toughest bosses players can fight early in Where Winds Meet, and unlike the world bosses found in Qianhe, players have no choice but to fight and eventually beat her if they want to continue the main story quest. She’s an absolute brick wall of a boss on Legend difficulty, and she doesn’t get much easier on lower difficulties either.
Fighting Qianye will take a lot of patience, but thankfully, Where Winds Meet offers players a few ways to get better or stronger. If you’re struggling to beat this boss, here are a few tips for you to try out.
Where Winds Meet Review: A Massive Game That Struggles Under Its Own Weight
Where Winds Meet offers a little something for everyone, but the Wuxia RPG struggles under the weight of its own grandeur.
Where Winds Meet: Qianye Boss Guide
The biggest thing you need to keep in mind during the fight against Qianye is you need to learn how to Deflect her attacks. Qianye’s moves are intimidating, but they are fairly easy to read.
The tips and strategies presented here are structured around Legend difficulty. You may have an easier time against her if you’re playing on easier modes.
First Phase
The first part of the fight is the easiest, as not only is Qianye at her least aggressive, but you also have Yi Dao helping you out. Deflect her moves and weave in some light attacks while the boss is recovering from her animations, then repeat until her health is depleted.
One thing to note here is that when she jumps up to the edge of the arena, she’ll charge up a gold attack that can neither be blocked nor parried. To avoid it, you either need to perfectly dodge it, or use Meridian Touch to knock her out of her jump. An icon will appear on Qianye as she lunges toward you, and when you see that, press use Meridian Touch on her.
Phase One Tips
- Bind Meridian Touch to a button you can easily reach.
- Whenever she starts an unblockable combo, wait for her scythe to flash before parrying.
- You should be blocking every time you aren’t attacking or parrying.
- When you break Qianye’s stance, don’t immediately use your finisher attack. Instead, squeeze in as much damage as you can before doing it.
- You’ll want to have at least three healing charges for this fight.
Second Phase
Phase Two is where things get spicy. Here, Qianye becomes significantly more aggressive, her combos become longer and stronger, and her hits will build up a status meter that will cause you to start burning when filled. Blocking is a lot less helpful here since the burn effect will still build-up on blocked hits, so again, learn to parry her moves.
The best way to practice Qianye’s moveset is through the Practice Mode. When you die to her, you’ll see the option to practice fighting against Qianye freely without losing resources and item durability. Spend a few fights there, and you should be able to figure her moves out more easily.
When Qianye goes below 50% health, she’ll send you to the mirror dimension below the floor, and you’ll have to fight an alternate version of herself that has a completely different moveset. Qianye’s white version is just as aggressive, but the kicker here is that while you’re in this mirror dimension, your health will continuouly drain.
The trick to surviving this phase of the fight is, you guessed it, deflect everything. That won’t be enough, though — you’ll also need to be extremely aggressive during this phase. We recommend equipping Cloud Steps or using a weapon with a good gap close, such as the Noname/Nameless Sword. Whenever it’s safe to do so, close the gap between you and Qianye, and keep pelting her with light attacks. She’ll eventually send you back to fight the regular Qianye after you deal enough damage.
Phase Two Tips
- Be very passive when fighting Black Qianye. Let her come to you, and focus on parrying and counter-attacking.
- Be very aggressive when fighting White Qianye. When she isn’t attacking, she just walks menacingly around you.
- White Qianye will always attack when she teleports around you. They’re the perfect opportunities to parry.
- Black Qianye’s attacks are very predictable. It’ll take some time before you memorize the timing of her combos, though.
- If you’re having trouble managing your health, bring a Panacea Fan.
Once you beat Qianye, a long cutscene will play, and you’ll have officially completed the first chapter of the game. After that, it’s off to Kaifeng in Where Winds Meet, though you can always complete the Qianhe region first before moving on.
