Battlefield 6 Players Are Split on the New Skins
Battlefield 6 players are largely split over the latest cosmetics to arrive in the store, with some praising their look while others are in shock over the price. The constant additions of premium content from battle passes to cosmetic items are nothing new for online multiplayer games, like Fortnite and the Call of Duty franchise, though Battlefield 6 has had its fair share of controversy already.
Over the years, Call of Duty has been criticized for how far away the series has gone from its traditional military roots and focusing on crossovers with a wide range of IPs and franchises. For EA, the studio took on these questions early, confirming that Battlefield 6 wouldn’t feature unrealistic skins or have crossovers that didn’t make sense, leaving fans hopeful that Beavis and Butthead or Nicki Minaj wouldn’t suddenly appear down the road. Even with more grounded looking soldier skins, the road has been a bit bumpier than EA likely imagined.
Battlefield 6 Changes Controversial Skin Following Fan Backlash
Battlefield 6 changes a controversial skin as part of the game’s Season 1 update due to the recent backlash from members of the game’s community.
The 323 Battlefield 6 Bundle Leaves Players Divided
To help sustain Battlefield 6 development throughout its post-launch lifespan, EA is continuing to add to the in-game shop where players can spend their premium currency on cosmetics or other items. A new bundle called The 323 was added to the game’s store during the mid-season refresh, representing a fictional NATO affiliated militia group composed of retired servicemen from different branches of the military. The skins also fit well with Battlefield 6‘s first season known as the California Resistance, which also added two maps set within the region.
Reaction to the skins and how they fit in the game has been largely positive, with many praising the look for sticking to that more realistic tone and helping to break up the current heavily uniformed soldiers currently in the game. There were also plenty of retired Dad jokes as well, while others were disappointed they were a little too casual by wearing jeans and missing combat helmets.
However, the biggest piece of controversy with this new bundle is the price. While many were happy with the look of the skins, the issue for most is that the bundle will set players back 2,400 Battlefield Coins, a $20 price tag. Some players offered their own conspiracy theory that the less impressive skins were put in the Battlefield 6 Season 1 Battle Pass to make the ones inside the store look more appealing, potentially pushing more sales. However, there were plenty of individuals who weren’t shocked to see this, as it’s fairly common in other online shooters and is largely an expected practice.
Even as EA continues to try a balance between interesting skins and retaining that grounded look, some plans have already had to be adjusted over fan backlash. One such skin called Wicked Grin was removed from Battlefield 6 after fans complained that it didn’t fit with the more grounded look the game was going for. While sporting tactical gear, many fans took issue with the brighter blue accents as well as the toothy grin painted over the neck gaiter of the Assault class. Many believe the skin is being redesigned and will likely appear down the road in some capacity with a new look.
