Z-A Ranked Battle Season 6 Detailed

By newsgame

The sixth season of Pokemon Legends: Z-A Ranked Battles will begin at the end of January and last through most of Feburary, giving Pokemon trainers time to earn the exclusive Swampertite Mega Stone. Additionally, by climbing up to Rank S in Pokemon Legends: Z-A Ranked Battles, trainers will have another chance to claim some Mega Stones that were available in past Seasons.

In less than four months since its October 2025 launch, Pokemon Legends: Z-A became one of the best-selling titles on the Switch 2 console. Over a million physical copies of Pokemon Legends: Z-A: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition were sold in Japan alone, joining other bestsellers like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. By comparison, the original Switch version of Pokemon Legends: Z-A has sold over 1.5 million units in Japan since launch. Ergo, Pokemon Legends: Z-A was the second-best-selling Nintendo title in late December 2025 across both Nintendo consoles, trailing Mario Kart World.

Rank S and Below

As Pokemon Legends: Z-A Season 5 draws to a close in late January, trainers will soon have another season to prepare for. Season 6 of Pokemon Legends: Z-A Ranked Battles will begin on Thursday, January 29, at 1:00 AM Eastern and end on Wednesday, February 18, at 8:59 PM Eastern. All trainers will have their rankings reset to Rank Z once Season 6 begins. As of this writing, trainers have less than a week to finish any Season 5 Ranked Battles that they want to do. Pokemon Legends: Z-A trainers who reach Rank S during Season 6 will earn the Swampertite upon ranking up. The Swampertite can then be used to Mega Evolve Swampert, where it gains a boost to its physical attack stat. Additionally, climbing up Ranks Y through U will reward Pokemon Legends: Z-A players with past Mega Stone rewards. Players will have yet another chance to earn the Greninjite, Delphoxite, Chesnaughtite, Baxcalibrite, and Sceptilite Mega Stones, respectively, as they reach Rank U during Season 6. Trainers must connect to the Internet and update Pokemon Legends: Z-A to version 2.0.1 to participate in Ranked Battles.

However, Season 6 is not the only thing on the January docket for Pokemon fans. On January 21, Pokemon Legends: Z-A released its Patch 2.0.1 content update, which brought some quality-of-life changes to the game. Pokemon Legends: Z-A increased the Mega Shard cap from 999 to 9,999, which will make saving up for items like Genesect plates and specific Technical Machines (TMs) easier to manage. Additionally, Pokemon Legends: Z-A trainers can now buy berries and feathers in bulk, which will make managing a Pokemon’s Effort Values (EVs) an easier task than before. Given that Pokemon Legends: Z-A Ranked Battles can be competitive, Pokemon trainers looking to climb up to the higher ranks should check their team’s EVs accordingly. However, not every available critter in Pokemon Legends: Z-A can participate in Season 6 Ranked Battles.

Eligible Pokemon in Season 6 Ranked Battles

  • All Pokemon included in Lumiose Pokedex Entries 001 to 232
  • All Pokemon included in Hyperspace Pokedex Entries 001 to 132
  • Only one of the following Legendary Pokemon may be included on a team:

    • Xerneas
    • Yveltal
    • Zygarde
    • Mewtwo
    • Kyogre
    • Groudon
    • Rayquaza

Although the majority of the Lumiose and Hyperspace Pokedexes will be available for Pokemon Legends: Z-A players to pick from in Season 6 Ranked Battles, some of Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Legendary monsters will have some restrictions in place. In short, to prevent Pokemon Legends: Z-A players from stacking their full team of Legendary creatures, trainers will be limited to carrying up to one special Pokemon on their teams. The restricted Pokemon in question that players can only pick one of include monsters like Zygarde, Mewtwo, and Kyogre. Additionally, Pokemon Legends Z-A players will not be able to carry more than one Pokemon with the same Pokedex entry number, and all Pokemon will automatically be synced to level 50 during a Ranked Battle.

Despite the restrictions on Legendary Pokemon, some of the strongest Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A can still be used in Season 6 Ranked Battles, including Tyranitar, Metagross, and Dragonite. All in all, trainers will still have plenty of options for climbing up the ranks in the upcoming season.
