The lack of a traditional hunger system makes food not as essential in Hytale as in other games in the genre, but that doesn’t mean you should go out on an empty stomach. Good food will give you some nice boosts to your health and stamina, but in order to make such good food, you’ll need to gather the right ingredients. Eggs, for example, are essential for baking, but you can’t just find these in the wild. You’ll need to find and catch chickens as well as create the right environment for them. How to Get Chickens in Hytale
You’ll occasionally find chickens in the wild while you’re exploring Zone 1’s forest/meadow biomes. They’re not that hard to come by, though they aren’t super common either. Either way, as long as you’re on grassy fields, you should be able to spot some just roaming around.
Thankfully, you don’t need to lure grown chickens to your base; you can outright catch them instead. Chickens can be caught by using a Capture Crate, one of the tools that you can craft from a Farmer’s Workbench. You’ll need to level up your workbench first, though, so make sure to have the required materials first.
Once you’ve made a Capture Crate, hold it in your hands, then press the Left Mouse Button while looking at a nearby chicken. This will place the chicken inside the box. Take it back home, and press the Left Mouse Button again to release it.
How to Get & Use Chicken Coops in Hytale
If you place a chicken in a random spot in your base, it might wander off or de-spawn after some time. In order to make it stay and produce eggs for you, you’ll need to build a Chicken Coop first.
Chicken Coops are also made through the Farmer’s Workbench using any Wood, Essences of Life, and Plant Fibers. Place one down near your base, then release your chickens near it. The game will automatically assign chickens to any nearby coop, and once that’s done, the chickens will stay in their new home.
How to Get Eggs
As for eggs, chickens assigned to coops will lay one every day, and you’ll know if eggs can be collected if there’s a bag in your coop’s entrance. Chickens will automatically rest inside coops once night comes, and in the morning, you’ll be able to pick up one egg per chicken inside a coop. You can have up to 6 chickens per coop, which should be enough to make some of the best healing food in Hytale.
Additionally, chickens seemingly lay eggs at random times of the day as well. You might end up getting some extra eggs by visiting your coops, though don’t expect this to happen often unless you have tons of extra chickens around.
if you have more than 6 chickens around one coop, the excess chickens should still stick around and randomly lay eggs as well. Srtill, it’s better to just build a new coop for them just to make sure that they don’t disappear.
