Hytale Farming Guide
In Hytale, players can plant crops to earn useful cooking ingredients, valuable goods, and decoration items. Although the process of farming crops is relatively simple, it can be confusing for brand-new players unfamiliar with the game’s progression loop.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to find farmable land, craft farming tools, plant seeds, enrich soil, and harvest crops in Hytale, detailing the process from beginning to end.
How to Get Charcoal in Hytale
Charcoal is a universal fuel source in Hytale and a crafting material required for certain recipes in the game. Here is how to get it.
Hytale Farming Guide
To start farming in Hytale, you’ll first need the Farmer’s Workbench, a dedicated crafting station where players can craft various types of tools, crop seeds, and other items related to the farming process.

Any items placed in storage chests within six blocks of a crafting station like the Farmer’s Workbench can be used at the bench without putting them in inventory.
How to Get Seeds in Hytale
To plant a crop in Hytale, you need crop seeds to plant in your farm. There are two ways to obtain seeds in this game. You can either craft them at the Farmer’s Workbench under the Seeds or find them as loot from chests found in the world.
A Tier 1 Farmer’s Workbench only allows players to craft Wheat and Cabbage seeds, which means your very first farm will likely consist of these two crops. As you upgrade the Farmer’s Workbench further, new seed types get unlocked.

How to Gather Water in Hytale
Before you start planting seeds, it’s best to secure a water source first. Find a lake, a pond, or a river anywhere in the world (you can easily identify water sources using the map), and use your Wooden Bucket (right-click) on the water source to collect a bucketful of water.
Bring the bucket of water to your farm, and dig a one-block hole nearby. Empty the water from the bucket into the hole, and you’ll get a convenient supply of water you can use to refill your watering can anytime you want.
The Watering Can needs to be refilled after every 20 uses.
How to Plant Crops in Hytale
Equip the Crude Hoe and use it to till soil in your chosen farmland by pressing right-click. Only blocks where crops can grow, like Dirt and Grass, can be tilled; the hoe cannot be used on something like stone or marble.
Once you have the farmland ready, equip the seeds for the crop you want your farm to grow and plant them in the tilled soil. Next, use the Watering Can to water the freshly planted crops to boost their growth rate by 2.5x.
If you have the Fertilizer Bag available (craftable at the Farmer’s Workbench Tier 3), you can use the Fertilizer to boost crop growth by a further 2x. One bag of fertilizer can only be used to enrich five blocks of tilled soil before being used up.
Crops can grow without watering or fertilization, but the time it takes for them to reach maturity is drastically increased. Taking the Carrot crop as an example, the following table details the difference soil enrichment makes on the growth rate.

How to Harvest Crops in Hytale
After a crop reaches maturity, players will be able to harvest it by pressing the Interact key (F) on it. Pressing and holding the Interact key allows players to harvest multiple blocks with a single button press.
Harvested crops drop two things: the crop itself and the Essence of Life. If, for example, you have a farm with 10 Wheat, when the crop matures, and you harvest them all, you’ll obtain 10 Wheat and 10 Essence of Life.
In very rare cases, it is possible to obtain Eternal Seeds when harvesting a crop.
