Hytale Mod Makes The Game Look Like Minecraft

By newsgame

Just days after its initial release, one Hytale modder is already attempting to make the game look more like Minecraft. Considering Hytale started life as a Minecraft server named Hypixel, there’s something poetic about this creation that really brings the game full circle.

After a troubled decade-long development involving a dramatic cancellation, fan petition, and revival, Hytale finally launched into early access earlier this week. The game immediately found a large audience, with word-of-mouth about the game’s quality rapidly spreading online. It has already been confirmed that Hytale has secured funding for the next two years of development based on the early access sales so far, and it’s likely that sales will continue to rise quickly. While Hytale thrives on its own merits, it’s clear from a glance that the game bears a resemblance to Minecraft, and the two games have drawn comparisons to one another. However, according to one gamer, just bearing some similarities simply isn’t enough.

This Hytale Mod Makes it Look Like Minecraft, But It’s Not Quite Ready Yet

Redditor LucyLavend shared an image of their Hytale mod with the game’s community online, revealing that they’re in the process of making the game look much more like Minecraft. They clarify that it’s a work in progress at the minute, but they’ll “put it up on CurseForge when I have something that’s functional enough.” The mod transforms the game’s textures to be much less detailed, making them much closer to their Minecraft equivalent. So far, they’re doing a great job, and if not for the Hytale UI, it could easily be mistaken for a Minecraft screenshot. Considering Hytale has already faced plenty of Minecraft comparisons so far, this mod is doing very little to dispel those notions.

Some users in the thread jokingly suggested that someone now needs to make a Minecraft mod that makes the game more like Hytale, completing the circle in full. Another had an interesting suggestion, claiming it would be “so much cooler If these were unique items and there was a portal to “Minecraft” where you can get all these items, and fight the mobs etc. Instead of just replacing all the Hytale stuff with Minecraft stuff.” However, it’s not clear whether LucyLavend is planning this for the future of their Hytale x Minecraft mod, so it will be fun to see how it progresses.

From the start, Hytale has positioned itself as being “by modders, for modders,” a motto recently reinforced on X by Hypixel Studios founder Simon Collins-Laflamme. Given the game’s initial history as a modded Minecraft server, it makes sense that the game would be quick to embrace the potential of mods. However, at this point, Hytale mods are still in their infancy. It will likely not be for a while until players finally start to see the realized potential of Hytale mods. Gamers only have to look to Minecraft to see a perfect case study on what talented modders can achieve with the right platform.

While Hytale modders are already hard at work improving the game in their own ways, developer Hypixel Studios has wasted no time getting to work on new updates. Just recently, Hytale launched its first major update for the game, adding dinosaurs to tropical jungle biomes. The patch also featured a bunch of smaller changes, but it’s cool to see new content already being added at this early stage. There will be plenty more to come over the next few months as Hytale continues to gather momentum.
