New Horizons Leaks New Feature for Big January Update

By newsgame

Animal Crossing: New Horizons may have accidentally leaked a new feature set to arrive in its upcoming January update. With Animal Crossing: New Horizons coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on January 15, 2026, fans are excited about what Nintendo might have planned for the upgrade.

The initial launch of Animal Crossing: New Horizons came in March 2020, achieving critical acclaim across the board. The latest Animal Crossing: New Horizons went on to smash sales records, and remains popular to this day. However, Nintendo’s handling of the game’s lack of post-launch content has often come under fire from the community, and there’s some hope that its upcoming release on Nintendo Switch 2 can assist with more new content.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons ESRB Rating Leaks ‘2D Platformer’ For Switch 2 Port

Animal Crossing New Horizons ESRB Rating-2

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has now been rated by the ESRB for its Nintendo Switch 2 release, and the board’s rating is nearly identical to its initial launch. One thing stands out, though – a small new section has been added that touts a “2D platformer in which players use a mallet to knock creatures off the screen.” There is currently nothing that fits this description as a feature in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so it appears to be an unintentional leak at what players can expect next year.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Interior 2

When Animal Crossing: New Horizons‘ big January update and Switch 2 port were first announced last month, Nintendo confirmed that more content would be coming to the game. However, it’s difficult to imagine that Nintendo spilled all of its secrets right out of the gate, and the prospect of what seems to be a 2D platformer minigame is certainly exciting. The only way to know for sure is to wait and see what is included when Animal Crossing: New Horizons releases on Switch 2 on January 15, 2026.

Chopping rocks in Animal Crossing New Horizons

In March, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will turn six years old. The gap between previous iterations was already a lengthy eight years, and with no news from Nintendo on a possible sequel, it seems the series could be set to repeat this. There were some rumors earlier this year that Nintendo was set to announce a new Animal Crossing game, but they have yet to come to fruition. For now, it’s time to look forward to all the new content coming to New Horizons.
