Where to Find Thorium in Hytale
Thorium is one of the two intermediate ore types in Hytale that players can craft during the mid-part of their playthrough. This is a step above regular Copper and Iron, and while equipment made of Thorium is better in almost every aspect, they’re a little harder to make due to the nuances involved in Thorium Ore itself.
Players should have no trouble finding large quantities of Thorium in Hytale, but only if they know where to go and what to look for. This guide covers the best ways to get Thorium as well as some tips on how to make the process easier.
How to Get Cindercloth Scraps in Hytale
This guide will help players find Cindercloth Scraps, a material in Hytale that plays an important role in the crafting of weapons and armor.
Hytale Thorium Locations
You can find Thorium by looking for desert biomes on your map. Every world in Hytale’s Exploration Mode is procedurally generated, so it’ll be hard to pinpoint exact locations. In our case there was a large desert biome to the south of the starting zone.
When you reach a desert biome, look for caves that lead underground. Some caves are shallower than others, while others lead straight down into the earth. You should be able to find Thorium veins all over underground areas, much like how you’d find Copper or Iron.
Underground desert caves are a bit more dangerous than the ones in the starting meadow zones. There’s a wider variety of enemies here, including frequent spawns for Goblins, Desert Skeletons, and Skaraks, which are large, subterranean insects that can easily catch you off guard. If they get the jump on you, they might just send you flying off a ledge.
Savannah biomes don’t appear to count as far as Thorium spawns are concerned. Make sure to look in caves deeper inside deserts.
Underground Exploration & Mining Tips
- Before going underground, always bring a big stack of torches and ladders as well as a few sign boards. These will help you navigate caves while leaving behind tracks that will make future visits easier.
- Bring a bucket of water or two. You can use these to create water elevators that are very handy for going up and down chasms.
- Crouching prevents you from accidentally moving off of ledges. You can use this to carefully make bridges across large gaps.
What is Thorium For?
As of writing, Thorium is mostly used for crafting equipment and upgrading workbenches in Hytale. This is usually paired with Venom Sacs, a type of material that drops from poisonous monsters like snakes, spiders, and the big flying insects around desert biomes.
Thorium Ingots are also used for crafting keys needed for the Ancient Gateway. These will open portals leading to different areas in Orbis (though they are currently not fully implemented in the early access release version of the game).
