How to Get Darkwood in Hytale

By newsgame

There are many different types of trees in Hytale, and it just so happens that they yield different kinds of wood as well. Several crafting recipes require specific kinds of wood, and some such recipes require Darkwood. These aren’t as ominous as they sound — in fact, Darkwood in Hytale literally refers to wood that’s dark in color, and while players might not be able to get some of these as soon as they start a game, they’re actually quite easy to get later down the road.

Players who want to easily travel across long distances in Hytale will need to collect Azure Kelp, and this guide will help them find that material.

Some of the best sources of Darkwood are the snowy tundra regions that are usually found north of maps. Here, you’ll find tons of Cedar trees, and when you cut them down, they’ll yield Cedar Trunks, which are counted as a type of Darkwood.

Oddly enough, the similar-looking Fir and Redwood trees that also grow around Hytale’s boreal regions don’t count as Darkwood, despite being very similar to Cedar.

While you can always just chop every tree down when you get to a tundra, you’ll want to pay attention to what you’re cutting if all you want is to get Darkwood. Cedar trees have slightly blue leaves that curl upwards. In contrast, Fir and Redwood trees have greener leaves that curl downwards. In the image above, you can see Redwood trees to the left and Cedar trees to the right.

Either way, you can cut Cedar trees down using any axe. Just make sure to start chopping the very bottom block of a tree so you get the most resources. Keep in mind that tundra regions are home to Cobalt and Outlanders, which drop Shadoweave Scraps in Hytale. If you want to make the most use of your time there, gear up for a fight and/or a quick mining trip to the mountains.

If you’re having trouble finding Cedar trees, explore the dry areas around tundra regions, as denoted by the big, brown patches of land on the in-game map.

What is Darkwood For?

One of the more important uses of Darkwood is for upgrading the Farmer’s Workbench in Hytale. You’ll need 40 Darkwood Trunks to upgrade it to a higher level, not to mention all the other resources you need to collect.

Of course, Darkwood can also be converted into building blocks using the Builder’s Workbench. Blocks made using Darkwood have their signature dark color as well as a cozy cottage vibe, perfect for building small houses or larger, tavern-style builds. If you’re not planning on building a base in a snow biome, consider making a small camp with a Teleporter instead, so you always have more resources within reach.
