Cobalt is one of the two mid-tier ore types in Hytale that players will need for intermediate crafting. There’s an entire tier of gear made out of Cobalt, and some workbenches need a bunch of it for upgrades too, which means players will need to collect plenty of Cobalt if they want to follow the game’s linear crafting progression.
Thankfully, Cobalt isn’t that rare of a crafting material, but you’ll likely need to travel far from your base if you want to get large quantities of it. Here’s where you need to go to find Cobalt in Hytale.

Hytale Cobalt Location
Cobalt can be commonly found on the snowy regions of a map. You can find plenty of individual Cobalt nodes along the mountain ranges on tundras, and you’ll find entire veins of Cobalt underground along with Copper and Iron.
Mining Cobalt on mountains tends to be a bit safer compared to underground mining, in our experience. There’s usually plenty of this material to be found above ground, which means you won’t have to worry about spelunking and fighting underground creatures. However, snow region mountains are also home to Yetis, and fighting them can be quite dangerous.
If you do decide to go mining underground, we strongly recommend building a camp first. Just put down a bedroll somewhere safe, and maybe a campfire and a chest or two. Underground areas in snow biomes tend to have a lot of ice blocks along walkable surfaces, and since they’re slippery, there’s a good chance you’ll fall to your death if you aren’t careful. Make sure to bring some Repair Kits as well before you go on long journeys.
If you have an Arcanist’s Workbench in your base, you’ll be able to build Teleporters that connect your home to other places on the map.
Cobalt Uses
Cobalt is mainly used for crafting Cobalt gear, which includes weapons, armor, and tools. It’s also used to upgrade some of your crafting stations, including the basic Workbench and the Blacksmith’s Anvil. Chuck some raw Cobalt Ore into a Furnace, then wait until they get cooked into ingots.
Keep in mind that Cobalt equipment also requires Shadoweave Scraps, a type of material similar to Linen Scraps in Hytale that drop from Outlanders, one of the humanoid enemy types found in snow biomes. You can find Outlander strongholds on your map, but be careful. They’re much more aggressive than Trorks and Skeletons, and big camps tend to have a lot of Outlanders inside them. Play carefully, and take care not to get swarmed.
