You Don’t Have to Wait Until January 20 to Play One of the New PS Plus Extra Games

By newsgame

PS Plus Premium subscribers can play Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth a little early, thanks to the game’s free trial. Sony ended last year on a high note with an unusually high number of free monthly games, leaving fans anxious to see how the 2026 lineup will compare. There are already some gems to look forward to on PlayStation Plus, and one is technically playable before the date it officially drops on the service.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is one of nine games coming to PS Plus on January 20 and is one of the headliners for the month. The Like a Dragon series as a whole has garnered a cult following for its over-the-top characters and in-depth worlds with endless hours of content, and Infinite Wealth is often regarded as one of the best. Better yet, PS Plus users with a Premium subscription can dive into it without waiting for the 20th to roll around.

PS Plus Is Losing One of Its Most Emotionally-Charged Games and 3 Other Titles in January 2026

PlayStation Plus subscribers have to say goodbye to one of the service’s most emotionally-charged games and three other titles in January.

PS Plus Premium Users Can Play Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Now

As Redditor Otherwise_Ninja_9699 pointed out, Infinite Wealth is playable right now because it has a free trial that can tide players over until the full game drops on January 20. The freebie is only available on the Premium tier, so PS Plus Extra users will need to wait until the 20th, but it’s a nice surprise for anyone with the right subscription. It is only a preview, not the full game, but Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has a 10-hour trial on PS Plus, which is far longer than most demos and certainly long enough for a few lengthy play sessions between now and the 20th. Save data should carry over from the free trial, too, so players won’t have to go back and replay anything once the title becomes available in full.

Infinite Wealth is not the first game in the story since the series rebranded from Yakuza to Like a Dragon, so gamers may be a little lost in the narrative if this trial is their first foray into the franchise. Still, other fans say the story, which is on the convoluted side, is less important than the gameplay, so it’s fine to jump in at any point. While people may disagree on whether it’s a good first Like a Dragon experience, what’s not up for debate is that Infinite Wealth was one of the highest-rated games of 2024, so the chance to get to play it a little earlier for free is hard to overlook.

The game could also serve as a nice way to tide fans over until the eventual launch of Grand Theft Auto 6. Some say Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is one of the best GTA-like PS5 games, and it easily offers 60-plus hours of playtime, so it’s worth checking out for anyone holding out for Rockstar’s big November release. There’s no end date listed for the free trial, so it seems like anyone with a PS Plus Premium subscription can download and start playing it any time between now and the 20th, when it’ll become available to Extra subscribers.

A few extra days of free playtime may not be enough to persuade many people to upgrade to Premium, but it’s still a welcome discovery. For those without Premium or even Extra, there are four PS5 demos available for free right now that don’t require any PS Plus subscription. There is a lot left in 2026 to go, but so far, it’s looking like a good time to be a PlayStation fan.
