Marvel Rivals Confirms Deadpool’s Role
Marvel Rivals developer Netease Games confirmed that Deadpool would be a three-in-one hero once he arrives in Season 6: Night At The Museum. In short, Deadpool can swap between the Duelist, Vanguard, or Strategist roles to suit specific situations, adding a never-before-seen dynamic to Marvel Rivals and the hero shooter genre overall.
First revealed during the 2025 edition of The Game Awards, Deadpool joins Elsa Bloodstone as the primary heroes joining the Marvel Rivals roster throughout Season 6. Known by nicknames such as “The Merc With A Mouth” and “The Regenerating Degenerate,” Wade Wilson is a mercenary that became a human mutate after undergoing experimental cancer treatments. Though often regarded as a loose cannon within Marvel media, Deadpool has been associated with the X-Men and other factions. Along with a hilarious penchant for breaking the fourth wall with his dialogue, Deadpool’s toolkit includes his healing factor, along with dual pistols, katanas, and other objects that he can seemingly pull from nowhere. Leading up to Season 6, Marvel Rivals‘ interpretation of Deadpool was kept under wraps, with some fans debating what his role would be in the team shooter.
Marvel Rivals Update for January 2026 Brings Changes to 4 Heroes
NetEase reveals patch notes for the January 8, 2026 update for Marvel Rivals, making adjustments to 4 heroes while also upgrading its test kitchen.
Marvel Rivals Turns Deadpool Into a Three-In-One Hero
Although Marvel Rivals has kept its own spin on the trinity of hero shooter roles, Deadpool’s arrival will soon turn the meta game on its head. Deadpool will join Marvel Rivals once Season 6: Night At The Museum begins on Friday, January 16. As stated by Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen during the January 13 Dev Vision video, Deadpool will be Marvel Rivals‘ first three-in-one playable character, as he will be able to play as a Vanguard, a Strategist, or a Duelist at any point during the game. As a Duelist, Deadpool uses his katanas and pistols to mow down enemies from various ranges. By taking up the Strategist role, Deadpool can slice and shoot his allies to heal them up while dealing damage to enemies. For the Vanguard role, Deadpool can throw a giant unicorn plush doll to grant shields to his allies, and he can use his dual pistols against single targets.
During the first half of the Dev Vision episode, The Merc With a Mouth took it upon himself to discuss what he’s capable of. Voiced by Alejandro Saab, Deadpool explained how some of his abilities work in Marvel Rivals. By pulling out a comic book, Deadpool can enhance his skills via “level-up” traits similar to an RPG. These buffs and traits depend on his gameplay role. Deadpool’s Ultimate attack is also dependent on his role, as its effects will accordingly change. Deadpool’s Ultimate Duelist attack will pick out a target to harass and deal damage via his aura and weapon skills, while his Ultimate attack as a Strategist or a Vanguard can bolster his teammates via healing or defensive buffs. Unlike other heroes, Deadpool’s Ultimate gauge charges based on “fancy fighting” skills. Deadpool can also quiz other players to gain buffs based on his role, though these buffs depend on how well the targeted player responds to Deadpool’s questions.
Marvel Rivals Season 6 is Loaded with Content
For team-up abilities, Deadpool will be paired with Jeff the Land Shark for “Mr. Pool’s Interdimensional Toy Box,” which will have various effects based on its target. The area-of-effect (AoE) of Deadpool’s and Jeff’s team-up ability can heal nearby allies and create a visual interference effect for enemies caught inside its radius. Various balance changes to Marvel Rivals‘ growing roster of heroes will be posted closer to Season 6’s arrival.
Elsa Bloodstone will arrive in Marvel Rivals later on in Season 6. With Marvel Rivals slated to have a busy 2026 schedule, time will tell what other surprises Netease has in store for players.
