Catch Wattrel and Tadbulb in Pokemon GO’s High Zaptitude Event

The Storm Petrel Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, Wattrel, is making its debut in Pokemon GO during the High Zaptitude event. Not only will the Electric/Flying-type bird be available to catch, but its evolution, Kilowattrel, will also be added to the mobile game.

The High Zaptitude event starts today, January 13, at 10 am local time, and will conclude on January 18 at 8 pm local time. Here’s everything players need to know to make sure they get their hands on Wattrel!

How to Get and Evolve Wattrel in Pokemon GO

While Wattrel is debuting during this event, the only way players will be able to encounter it in the wild is by completing the second Global Challenge. Right now, the first challenge requires players to collectively explore 40,000,000 km. Once that is done, everyone will get double experience points for catching Pokemon.

The second Global Challenge will then appear, and once that’s done, Wattrel will start to show up as a wild spawn. You can also unlock an encounter with Wattrel by completing a Field Research Task that will pop up after the level 2 challenge is done.

Pokemon GO players can then evolve Wattrel into Kilowattrel by feeding it 50 Wattrel Candy. Just make sure you use Pinap Berries when you encounter one, so you can earn extra Candy. You can also set Wattrel as your Buddy Pokemon to earn even more.

High Zaptitude Research Tasks and Rewards

Field Research

There are three Field Research Tasks during the High Zaptitude event in Pokemon GO, and they are as follows:

• Catch 5 Pokemon
  • Potential Rewards: Chinchou, Tynamo, or Helioptile Encounter
• Catch 15 Pokemon
  • Potential Rewards: Emolga, Yamper, or Tadbulb Encounter
• This last task will appear once the level 2 challenge is completed
  • Reward: Wattrel Encounter

Premium Timed Research

If you decide to pay $1.99 for the Premium research ticket, you’ll get two steps of Research that will lead to encounters with Tadbulb, as well as other rewards:

Step 1

• Catch 5 Pokemon – Tadbulb Encounter
• Catch 10 Pokemon – Tadbulb Encounter
• Catch 15 Pokemon – Tadbulb Encounter
• Explore 1 km – Tadbulb Encounter
  • Total Rewards: Tadbulb Encounter, Incubator, and 9400 XP

Can Wattrel, Kilowattrel, and Tadbulb Be Shiny in Pokemon GO?

Unfortunately, Wattrel and its evolution, Kilowattrel, do not have shiny variants available in Pokemon GO just yet. However, this event marks the debut of shiny Tadbulb and its evolution, Bellibolt –in fact, there’s an increased chance to encounter them during the week.
