Xbox Releases Odd Elder Scrolls 6 ‘Teaser’ That You Shouldn’t Believe
Although Microsoft and Bethesda have not officially shared any release information about The Elder Scrolls 6, an Xbox post on social media stated that 2026 is still going to be a big year for games that have the number six in the title. Although The Elder Scrolls 6 fits that bill, other major games coming to Xbox consoles and PCs in the near future also have the number six, including Forza Horizon 6.
It’s no secret that The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most anticipated RPGs, despite the fact that Bethesda has released no concrete information about its setting or release window. However, The Elder Scrolls franchise has still been active in different ways. Between continued support for The Elder Scrolls Online, the Switch 2 port of Skyrim, and the surprising launch of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered in 2025, Bethesda’s fantasy RPG franchise remains one of the studio’s staple series. While information remains elusive, Bethesda director Todd Howard stated that The Elder Scrolls 6 remains in active development and that Bethesda has several overlapping projects in production.
Persona 6 News May Be On the Way After All
Despite fan backlash to the Persona 30th Anniversary live stream, Persona 6 may still get news in the near future, if new evidence is to be believed.
While information about The Elder Scrolls 6 remains elusive, Xbox’s social media team seemingly played upon that fact in response to a post about an upcoming broadcast. Xbox replied to a quoted post about its upcoming January 22 Developer Direct. Twitter user UsagiMoonlight stated that they were looking forward to Forza Horizon 6 more than Grand Theft Auto 6. Xbox said in response that 2026 would be a big year for “games ending in 6.” The quoted Twitter post with Xbox’s reply was then shared on The Elder Scrolls 6 subreddit, with a user stating that Microsoft was teasing fans waiting to hear anything at all about Bethesda’s elusive project.
In response, other Reddit users debated whether Microsoft’s reply was a subtle nod to The Elder Scrolls 6‘s long development cycle or if it was a purely coincidental reply that referenced Grand Theft Auto 6 and Forza Horizon 6 instead, given the “games ending in 6” reply from Xbox. With GTA 6 already delaying its launch to November 19, it is easily one of the most anticipated titles of the year. Although rumors have circulated on social media that Rockstar Games may be preparing to reveal another GTA 6 trailer focused on gameplay, it remains to be seen if that will be the case.
The Elder Scrolls 6 May Not Appear Anytime Soon
Xbox’s upcoming Developer Direct is scheduled to go live on Thursday, January 22, at 1:00 PM Eastern, on Xbox’s official Twitch and YouTube channels. However, fans looking to hear any concrete information about The Elder Scrolls 6 in the coming days should not hold their breath. Although Xbox has traditionally kept some surprises in its back pocket during its presentations, most of the upcoming Developer Direct’s content has already been confirmed by Microsoft in advance. As of this writing, Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Beast of Reincarnation, and an unknown, smaller first-party title from one of Xbox Game Studios’ developers will appear during the show. Ergo, there is little to no chance that The Elder Scrolls 6 will be shown during the January 22 show, barring any last-minute changes or surprises from Microsoft.
That said, 2026 still has some potential windows for Bethesda and Microsoft to showcase what they have planned. Given that Xbox Game Showcases tend to air in June during or after Summer Game Fest, the rest of 2026 is a clean slate for The Elder Scrolls franchise to make its next moves. With several RPGs planned to launch in 2026 and beyond, The Elder Scrolls 6 still remains one of the most-anticipated games on fans’ wish lists.
