Z-A’s DLC Finally Brings Mega Evolution Full Circle
Pokemon Legends: Z-A has really stepped up the series’ Mega Evolution game after the mechanic was absent for a couple of generations. While the initial crop of Mega Evolutions from Gen 6 heavily favored early-generation critters, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has added some much-needed representation to later generations. Now, with the recent trailer for the Mega Dimensions DLC, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has finally confirmed that the game will be filling in the last generation still missing a Mega Evolution representative.
The recent trailer for Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Dimensions DLC revealed that two more critters will be receiving Mega Evolutions. Gen 3’s Chimecho is a surprising candidate for a Mega, but even more importantly is the introduction of Mega Baxcalibur. This new Mega marks the first Gen 9 mon to get a Mega Evolution, which means that now every Pokemon generation has at least one creature with a Mega Evolution.
With the Release of Mega Dimensions, Pokemon Legends: Z-A Now Has a Mega Evolution from Every Generation
With Mega Evolution first being introduced in Gen 6 with Pokemon X and Y, it’s understandable that only critters up to that generation received Mega forms. Even with Mega Evolution technically available in the Gen 7 games, there is a clear lack of emphasis on the mechanic that resulted in no new Megas being added in that generation. After it was removed altogether in Gen 8, Pokemon Legends: Z-A was really the first opportunity for the post-X and Y games to get Mega representatives.

It’s no surprise that the majority of Pokemon with Mega Evolutions come from Gen 1, given that it is still the most iconic generation to date. Gen 3 is also heavily represented, since it had the benefit of remakes in the form of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire that released just after X and Y, which allowed plenty of Hoenn critters to get new forms. Pokemon Legends: Z-A really filled in Gens 5 and 6 with new Megas, since Mega Audino and Mega Diancie were the only representatives from their respective generations prior to this latest release. With Gen 7, 8, and 9 currently only having a single representative, it’s clear where the rest of the Mega Dimensions DLC should focus its new Mega additions.

In addition to the confirmed new Mega Dimensions DLC additions of Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur, several other new DLC Mega Evolutions have been leaked. While these include some more Gen 3 through Gen 6 mons, Gen 7 and 9 are getting a lot more love as well, including Scovillain, Glimmora, and Tatsugiri as Gen 9 representatives alongside Baxcalibur. It’s unclear how much longer Mega Evolution will be in the spotlight, or if it will return in Pokemon Gen 10, so it’s nice to see the series take full advantage of the mechanic through both Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s base game and the Mega Dimension DLC and spread the new Megas across the missing generations.
If these leaks are true, Falinks will remain the sole Gen 8 Mega in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
