GTA 6 Unsurprisingly Is GR Readers’ Most Anticipated Game For This Year

By newsgame

2025 was a massive year for games, and with the omission of a certain big-name release last year, it opened the door for multiple other games to get their time in the spotlight – none moreso, of course, than Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. With ’25 in our rear-view mirror, we now look to 2026 with high hopes and expectations for another great year in games.

The certain big-name that didn’t release last year was, of course, Grand Theft Auto 6, which now appears primed and ready to be dropped into our eager hands in 2026. Despite its popularity, with many declaring it to be one of the biggest game releases of all time, we wanted to find out from you, the valued readers here at Game Rant, if we’re all still hyped for Rockstar’s next big project.

We were expecting the very results we got, but we wanted to ask anyway! Unsurprisingly, GTA 6 takes out the top prize as the most anticipated game of the year for Ranters. Of course, that’s not the only data we can take from last week’s poll, so let’s take a look at how the other big-names for 2026 so far have shaped up.

What 2026 game are you looking forward to the most?

The results of the most anticipated game for 2026 poll

  • Grand Theft Auto 6 — 45% / 396 votes.
  • Other — 26% / 227 votes.
  • Resident Evil: Requiem — 13% / 114 votes.
  • Marvel’s Wolverine — 9% / 78 votes
  • Fable — 6% / 52 votes
  • The Duskbloods — 2% / 19 votes

It remains to be seen if GTA 6 will, in fact, drop in 2026. There are many who are yet to be convinced, like our own Joshua Duckworth, who promises to eat his hat if it comes out this year. Regardless of the status of the game, there’s no denying the immense hype and anticipation behind the release. The game has had many a developer scramble to change release dates because it clashes with Rockstar’s next game, which says a lot about the impact it is and will continue to have on the industry as a whole.

Outside of GTA 6, there is still a lot of potential to be realized in 2026. Our second-most popular selection was, in fact, Other! In a year that will include big releases not listed in the poll, such as Nioh 3, 007 First Light, and Phantom Blade Zero, we already have a stacked calendar of games to look forward to.

Of the listed games, horror gets a bit of overdue acknowledgment with Resident Evil: Requiem enjoying its current run of hype in the lead-up to its release on February 27. The long-running series has been a great entry point for newcomers to the genre, but has certainly piqued the interest of diehard scare fans as well.

Rounding out the final picks are three very solid, highly anticipated games in Marvel’s Wolverine, Fable, and The Duskbloods. Following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man series, expectations for the Wolverine adaptation are sky-high, and, by all appearances, the game looks set to deliver.

The other two selections are both well-known names in their own right, with Fable rebooting a beloved franchise from the early 2000s, while The Duskbloods comes courtesy of former GOTY winner Elden Ring‘s developer, FromSoftware. What may be dampening the hype for the latter, however, is its Switch 2 exclusivity, which may leave other console and PC players in the dark.

The anticipation for another stellar year of games is palpable! We now know what readers are most excited about, so let us know in the poll below – what’s your go-to gaming system to wind down and get lost in your favorite title?
