The Best-Selling Game Ever Made Has The Answer For Your Stranger Things Withdrawals

By newsgame

After nearly a decade, Stranger Things has finally reached the end of its road, and with it comes an empty void that many fans are looking to fill. Video games are one of many places where filling such a void is possible. Stranger Things has been featured in various video game crossovers over the years, including Fortnite and Dead by Daylight, but one of its most recent collaborations may be its best yet: the new Minecraft DLC. From Halo to The Nightmare Before Christmas, Minecraft has been a great spot for both official crossovers and fan-made mods, and Stranger Things is now part of the roster.

The Stranger Things finale marks the end of an era, and while it’s emotional seeing the show take its final bow, Minecraft‘s newest DLC offers a fresh way to experience the mysterious town of Hawkins.

Stranger Things Comes to Minecraft in a New DLC, and It’s Packed With Content

Created by Blockception, the Minecraft Stranger Things DLC takes the town of Hawkins, Indiana, and gives it a blocky makeover, complete with major locations from the series and its beloved cast of characters. From quests to cosmetics, this DLC features some of the most iconic moments from the Netflix show, and it could be the perfect way to experience more content to cope with how Stranger Things ended.

Minecraft’s Stranger Things DLC Covers Four Seasons

Since this expansion was dropped in the middle of Season 5, it only covers Season 1-4, but with that comes quests inspired by each chapter. Starcourt Mall, Hopper’s cabin, Mirkwood Forest, and The Gate from Season 2 are all included. Not only is it an homage to Stranger Things, but it’s also a trip down memory lane. There is also the Upside Down, of course, because no Stranger Things expansion would be complete without it.

Whether you want to stick with Stranger Things‘ core six or want to experience Hawkins as some of the series’ side characters, like Murray and Dr. Brenner, the expansion covers a lot of ground when it comes to the many Stranger Things characters that have made up the show through the years. With every fan having their own specific favorite, it only makes sense for the Minecraft DLC to bring as much of the cast into the spotlight as possible. What’s even better is that each character also boasts their own abilities that help players solve puzzles and get through the obstacles set in place by the expansion’s quests.

Minecraft‘s Stranger Things DLC is available on the Minecraft Marketplace for $8.99 USD and is only available for the Bedrock Edition. The expansion is currently unavailable for the Switch.

Minecraft’s Stranger Things DLC Could Also Inspire Some Great Builds

While the Stranger Things DLC is a more closed experience that focuses on specific quests and puzzle solving, that doesn’t mean it can’t inspire some great build ideas. From building one’s own version of the Creel House to Castle Byers, this DLC could set the stage for diehard fans of the series to pay homage to the Netflix hit in a variety of fun ways.

Stranger Things Build Ideas

  • Recreating character homes, like the Wheeler or Byers house
  • The Mindflayer towering over Hawkins Elementary
  • A Demogorgon lair
  • Eddie’s showdown with the Demobats
  • Hawkins Community Pool
  • Argyle’s pizza van

Since the game’s launch, there have been so many awesome Minecraft builds that it’s hard to keep track of them all, and Stranger Things is the perfect franchise to inspire some fresh ideas. Creativity lies at the heart of Minecraft, so there’s even plenty of room to reshape Stranger Things canon by creating one’s own “what if” scenarios that could prove to be just as cool.

The Show May Be Over, But Stranger Things Still Lives On in Other Corners of Pop Culture

The main series may have finished, but Stranger Things still likely has a bright future ahead of it, as its legacy will live on as an important piece of pop culture. Every Stranger Things season had its highs and lows, and while it wasn’t a perfect series, it was still a heartfelt story about friendship and how a strong support group is needed to get through the darkest moments in life. It embraced its 80s nostalgia without making it a parody and helped prove that streaming was the future home of must-watch TV. Much of Stranger Things‘ audience grew along with the cast, and now that it’s over and Eleven and the rest of The Party have grown up, it almost feels like saying goodbye to one’s own friends.

Two Stranger Things spin-offs are already on the way. Animated series Stranger Things: Tales from 85 takes place between the events of Season 2 and 3, while the Duffer Brothers have confirmed that a spin-off series centered around how Henry Creel turned into Vecna is in the works.

There aren’t many Stranger Things games, but Minecraft is a reminder that the series is likely to live on for a little while longer through more crossovers. It would be surprising if the end of the show also marked the end of future collaborations, especially considering how popular the series has continued to be. Only time will tell, though, but until then, those who love both Stranger Things and Minecraft have an extra dose of Hawkins to enjoy.
