By newsgame

Toby Fox has officially shared more details about when the highly-anticipated Deltarune Chapter 5 will release, confirming it will launch sometime during 2026. The follow-up to the mega-popular Undertale has seen plenty of excitement from fans as developer Toby Fox has slowly drip-fed more of the game. The demos of Deltarune‘s first two chapters achieved higher player count peaks than Undertale on Steam, while its physical release stood as the best-selling digital Switch 2 game following the console’s launch. Now, Toby Fox is teasing fans even more with the next chapter of the game on the way.

Following Deltarune‘s long-awaited paid release, Toby Fox confirmed that the rest of the game would arrive as free updates. Deltarune is currently planned to have seven chapters when the game is fully finished, typically having multi-year gaps between its previous chapters. The launch of the game’s paid version featured the first four chapters of the game, with the conclusion of Deltarune‘s Chapter 4 teasing that Chapter 5 would release sometime during 2026. Toby Fox has now reaffirmed that fans won’t have to wait much longer to dive into Deltarune‘s fifth chapter.

Deltarune Chapter 5 is Coming in 2026

A recent development update from Toby Fox gives fans a better idea of when they can expect Deltarune Chapter 5 to launch. Within the post to his Twitter account, Fox wished fans a happy new year and confirmed that Deltarune‘s newest chapter is still “on track to release” in 2026. The developer shared that translation work on the game’s fifth chapter has already begun, subtly teasing some of the plot points in Chapter 5 through a screenshot of different lines of dialogue. Toby Fox had previously shared in December that the release of Deltarune‘s Chapter 5 is still “several months away,” with localization and testing still needing to be done to ensure the update is ready to ship.

Toby Fox’s teaser about the game’s translation also hinted at some major story elements coming with Chapter 5. The post suggests that players may get to learn more about the mysterious Shadow Crystals, given out for defeating Deltarune‘s secret bosses. Seam is likely to be involved with the new Shadow Crystals lore, given the character’s close association with the boss rewards. The post also suggests that the “Annoying Dog” will be making a return in Chapter 5, with players potentially able to use the humorous character as a weapon.

Toby Fox is Already Looking Ahead to Future Deltarune Chapters

Toby Fox’s recent updates on Deltarune’s progress have also already given fans some inklings about the game’s future. In Fox’s December development update, he mentioned that many members of the Deltarune team will likely be moving onto Chapter 6 “in a few months.” Toby Fox had even previously suggested in September that at least one developer had already begun preliminary work on Chapter 6, claiming they were working on a new enemy’s “bullet patterns.” Given Chapter 5’s planned release date in 2026, Chapter 6 of Deltarune is not expected to launch until 2027 at the earliest.
