Upcoming Steam Game Is Escape from Tarkov Meets Dying Light

By newsgame

An upcoming zombie extraction game on Steam, The Midnight Walkers, has strong Escape from Tarkov and Dying Light vibes and is set to enter early access soon. Both Escape from Tarkov and Dying Light are successful, though they belong to completely different genres. The Midnight Walkers, however, seems to merge elements from both, creating a unique extraction zombie experience that could appeal to fans of either game.

This past year was remarkable for fans of extraction shooter games. They got Escape from Duckov, which quickly sold millions of copies and became one of the most-played titles on Steam in 2025. Then came ARC Raiders, 2025’s phenomenon, which broke several records on Valve’s storefront and cemented the extraction shooter as a dominant genre. As if that weren’t enough, on November 15, PC users finally received the long-awaited Escape from Tarkov‘s Steam version. Now, fans have The Midnight Walkers to look forward to.

New Steam Game Has Serious Starfield and No Man’s Sky Vibes

The Midnight Walkers is a hardcore PvPvE FPS zombie extraction game.

Developer Oneway Ticket Studio calls The Midnight Walkers a hardcore extraction shooter. The game features looting mechanics that strongly resemble Escape from Tarkov, requiring players to rely largely on the weapons, gear, and utility items they find during raids to survive relentless waves of zombies and hostile opponents.

Players spawn at a random location within a multi-floored complex called the Liberty Grand Center. Their main objective is to survive, gather the most valuable loot, and escape intact, reflecting the core philosophy of extraction games like Escape from Tarkov. What sets The Midnight Walkers apart is its floor system. Beyond facing deadly zombies and aggressive players, the game features a zone-shrinking mechanic called the Toxic Gas, which forces players to move between floors and eventually risk entering the most crowded areas.

The extraction mechanics in The Midnight Walkers add another layer of strategy. Players must use a special device called the Pod Tracker to locate nearby extraction points. Additionally, players can interact with an active Escape Pod to download its code into their Pod Tracker, allowing them to unlock another extraction point whenever needed.

The Midnight Walkers Channels Dying Light’s Intense First-Person Combat

Based on trailers, The Midnight Walkers features slow-paced action that relies heavily on melee weapons. Firearms are available, but they seem less common than knives, war hammers, and arrows. This melee-focused gameplay is reminiscent of Dying Light‘s core mechanics, particularly in PvE scenarios. Players will face larger, mini-boss-like creatures that feel straight out of a Dying Light encounter. However, the combat revealed so far does not include martial-arts-inspired moves like Dying Light‘s dropkicks, something fans might hope to see added in future updates if it isn’t already included.

The Midnight Walkers Release Date Details

In a post shared with the game’s Steam community, the team stated that The Midnight Walkers, now one of the most anticipated zombie games of 2026, is in a stable state and entering its final fine-tuning phase. Another piece of good news for fans is that the early access version will include patches developed directly from player feedback gathered during earlier tests.
