Cassette Beasts is the Epic Games Store‘s free game for December 27. The Pokemon-like RPG is now officially available to claim for the next 24 hours, marking the 11th free title that Epic Games Store users are able to add to their accounts as part of the platform’s 2025 holiday giveaway.

Epic’s December 27 Free Game Is Now Available

Epic’s We Were Here Together giveaway has now been followed by a free offer of Cassette Beasts, which officially launched on December 27, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET. Like the previous nine holiday freebies, the indie title will be available for exactly 24 hours, until Sunday, December 28. This marks the first time ever that Cassette Beasts is free to claim on the Epic Games Store.

Developed by Brighton-based Bytten Studio, Cassette Beasts is a 2023 monster-taming RPG that’s likely to appeal to Pokemon fans who feel like they have outgrown Game Freak’s franchise and consequently find it too easy nowadays. In contrast to Pokemon, the game emphasizes more tactical gameplay, where status effects and type matchups play a greater role. It also features an adult cast, an ’80s-style dynamic soundtrack that responds to on-screen action, and the ability to fuse creatures into more powerful familiars in a manner reminiscent of Shin Megami Tensei or Persona. Moreover, Cassette Beasts has a local co-op mode allowing a second player to seamlessly drop in and out on a shared screen and experience everything the first player does. The co-op mode is unlocked about 10 to 20 minutes into the game.
