A Brief Intro to Paradise Killer, the Latest EGS Freebie

Developed by British studio Kaizen Game Works and published by Australia-based Fellow Traveller, Paradise Killer is a genre-blending game that combines open-world exploration with murder mystery elements and visual novel storytelling. It generated predominantly favorable press coverage at launch, as underscored by its “Strong” rating on OpenCritic, based on an average score of 81 and an 85% reviewer recommendation rate. It also boasts “Very Positive” player reviews on Steam, in addition to 4.47- and 4.4-star user ratings on the PlayStation and Xbox Stores, respectively. Paradise Killer received praise from both players and reviewers for its memorable characters and open-ended investigations, which resemble real detective work and offer strong replay value. The game also drew acclaim for its distinctive vaporwave-inspired art direction and a synth-heavy soundtrack that complements the overall aesthetic.

Once the free offer of Paradise Killer expires, the Epic Games Store’s 2025 holiday season giveaway will be exactly 40% complete. So far, the platform has given away over $170 worth of games as part of the ongoing promotion. Another nine titles are still planned to be offered over just as many days, with the giveaway running until the end of December 2025. The 15th and final holiday freebie will be available to claim until 11am ET on January 1. That’s also when Epic is set to return to its usual weekly giveaway format and reveal its first free game(s) of 2026.

The deadline for claiming the Epic Games Store’s daily free games is 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET on the listed dates.

While a significant portion of this year’s holiday promotion has focused on indie releases, more high-profile titles may still be on the way. If past years are any guide, Epic could be planning to give away a major title on December 25, December 31, or both dates. Last year, the Epic Games Store’s Christmas giveaway featured Control, while its final freebie of 2024 was Sloclap’s critically acclaimed martial arts game Sifu.
