A Brief Intro to Sorry We’re Closed
Developed by a British studio with a largely French name of à la mode games, Sorry We’re Closed is a retro-style survival horror title with shifting perspectives. It combines fixed camera angles reminiscent of classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill games with occasional first-person shooting. The protagonist, Michelle, possesses a magical Third Eye ability that lets her see between worlds, which is a mechanic the game uses extensively across exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. The varied gameplay and neon-soaked visuals have resonated with critics, earning the game a “Strong” rating on OpenCritic, with an average score of 82 and an 86% reviewer recommendation rate. It also holds “Overwhelmingly Positive” user reviews on Steam, along with 4.51- and 4.4-star ratings on the PlayStation and Xbox stores, respectively.
Sorry We’re Closed Just Took a Major Award from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
First released for PC in late 2024 before arriving on consoles this March, Sorry We’re Closed recently won the Debut Game accolade at the 2025 Indie Game Awards. It was initially the runner-up, but was elevated after Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was disqualified for using generative AI during development. Although the AI-generated assets were reportedly placeholder art that’s no longer present in the game, awards organizer Six One Indie enforced a strict policy prohibiting any AI use, stating that nominees had confirmed their compliance before the ceremony.
