What to Expect From Marvel’s Wolverine in 2026

By newsgame

Revealed all the way back in September 2021, Marvel’s Wolverine is finally going to be releasing next Fall. Its announcement was incredibly exciting, as were subsequent reveals about the narrative team having talent from Spec Ops: The Line, a mature tone and rating, and more. Fans were also optimistic that the game wouldn’t take long to release, as Insomniac had been rapidly dropping games in the late PS4 and early PS5 era. Unfortunately, a disastrous leak saw huge segments of Marvel’s Wolverine being shared with the public, as well as Insomniac’s plans for the next several years and the studio’s private info being publicized.

Naturally, Insomniac Games needed time to secure its employees’ safety, restructure its future plans, and deal with the fallout of quietly scrapped projects — like a promising Marvel’s Spider-Man multiplayer game — now being public knowledge. There’s a chance that parts of Marvel’s Wolverine were reworked, too, as rough drafts of gameplay segments, major plot beats, and huge surprises all got out. While it’s taken some time, Marvel’s Wolverine is back on track and inching toward the end of development, so here’s what to expect from the highly anticipated 2026 game.

Major spoilers ahead based on leaked Marvel’s Wolverine info.

The Lead-Up to Marvel’s Wolverine Will Likely Be Packed With Reveals

Considering how Fall doesn’t begin until September, there will be at least eight months to build hype for Insomniac Games’ next superhero adventure. A dedicated State of Play close to release seems very likely, with the studio able to showcase the game’s bloody combat in more detail than ever before. Though some costumes will surely be kept under wraps, Marvel’s Wolverine will likely pull back the curtain on a handful of its alternate suits, with the Deadpool and Wolverine costume, Byrne’s brown suit (which seemingly leaked already), and an X-Force variant all seeming like surefire additions. More characters will likely be revealed, too, be it Debra Wilson’s Callisto, Brett Gibson’s Sabretooth, or Jolean Kim’s Lady Deathstrike. A collector’s edition featuring a statue of Logan seems like another no-brainer, with the design potentially mirroring the statue from the original Marvel’s Spider-Man game and featuring nods to all the villains he’ll face.

Based on the Marvel’s Spider-Man series, some pre-order bonus costumes can be expected. X-Men 97 and Astonishing X-Men looks have already leaked, and would naturally be good candidates.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Could Be the Model for Wolverine’s Gameplay Demo

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Both Characters Stand Together

Given the sales success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac going a similar route with the marketing for Wolverine would make perfect sense. If it takes the same approach, a lengthy gameplay demo — likely at a State of Play or larger PlayStation Showcase — would be on the cards. Spider-Man 2’s demo featured gameplay of both Peter and Miles, showcasing the former’s Symbiote abilities, as well as an epic chase sequence with the Lizard. It did cut off before the actual boss battle between Peter and his reptilian adversary, though, which is something to keep in mind for a hypothetical Wolverine demo.

A 10-minute segment of Marvel’s Wolverine could showcase raw combat against some basic enemies, highlighting Logan’s different fighting skills, while also giving players a more clear direction of the story. Based on plot leaks, it seems like Logan will be trying to stop Omega-level Mutants from being captured by Mister Sinister, though Insomniac doesn’t have to reveal all of this. Simply giving fans more of a narrative hook than they have now, while also highlighting gameplay, could do the trick. Featuring a chase sequence like the cinematic boat sequence that leaked, or something new, like Logan hunting a boss like Omega Red, could make for a solid way to cap off the footage.

While the Insomniac leak already spoiled some of the biggest twists for Marvel’s Wolverine, such as a playable Jean Grey and Mister Sinister (played by Troy Baker) being the main antagonist, there’s no reason Insomniac has to show the final versions of this content before release. There will be plenty of casual gamers out there who paid no attention to the leaks and will still be shocked by another playable hero or the actual main villain, as many would expect Sabretooth to be the main antagonist as opposed to an X-Men-level threat like Sinister. So while alternate Marvel’s Wolverine costumes, some side characters, more combat, and a clear story premise are all valid candidates for reveals, Jean and Sinister could absolutely be kept under wraps until the game launches.

Doc Ock’s full design wasn’t shown prior to Marvel’s Spider-Man actually releasing, and Mister Sinister could be treated a similar way.

Predicting The Official Release Date of Marvel’s Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine will release in either September, October, or November, though based on Insomniac’s previous releases, it’s difficult to narrow things down to a precise launch month.

Ratchet and Clank (remake)

November 12, 2020

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

June 11, 2021

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

However, while Insomniac’s own game releases don’t help with an estimate, there’s one thing that does: Grand Theft Auto 6. A true elephant in the room that has already panicked developers and led to release date changes, the multi-Game Award winner for Most Anticipated Game drops on November 19, 2026. Naturally, Insomniac Games will want to avoid this title’s launch too, so dropping the title near the start of Fall, either in September or early October, would give it time to succeed. Considering how the last several Insomniac games have dropped on a Friday, September 18, 2026, it feels like a solid guess for Marvel’s Wolverine’s release date.

Could Marvel’s Wolverine Be Delayed?

Though it’s certainly possible that Marvel’s Wolverine could be pushed back, especially with Insomniac’s currently vague launch window of Fall 2026, though the studio recently doubled down on its release plans via a social media post in November. Insomniac also doesn’t tend to delay its titles, and given how long Marvel’s Wolverine has been in the works, it’s safe to assume that it isn’t going to break that trend. Currently, all signs point to Marvel’s Wolverine releasing next year as currently planned.

The Launch of Marvel’s Wolverine

When Marvel’s Wolverine releases, fans can expect certain content, such as:

  • Brutal, bloody melee combat wear the sharpness of Logan’s claws are on full display. Set piece moments will also be prevalent to keep a cinematic feel.
  • Boss fights against some of Wolverine’s deadliest foes, like Omega Red.
  • Various costumes for Wolverine, with comic book and movie looks sure to be present alongside original designs.
  • A bold new take on Wolverine, with Liam Mcyintyre playing the “Best He is as What he Does.” Memorable characters like Mystique will make up the supporting cast.
  • A variety of locations, from Japan and the Alaskan Wilderness to the fictional city of Madripoor.

Based on the track record of Insomniac Games, which has produced well-reviewed games for several years and is hot off the heels of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a game that has a 90 on Metacritic, it can be assumed that Marvel’s Wolverine will review very well. Anywhere between the mid-80s to low 90s on review aggregate sites is a safe bet, especially with Insomniac taking so much time to polish and perfect its latest project. In the post-credits scene of the game, it would make perfect sense to lay the groundwork for Insomniac’s X-Men project, which according to leaks is going to be the studio’s focus around 2030. If there are two scenes, perhaps one will set up Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, which will likely drop before Marvel’s X-Men.

Though the years of waiting for Marvel’s Wolverine have been tough, both on the studio and its fans, 2026 is shaping up to be incredibly rewarding. The early month of the year should bring blog posts, suit reveals, and snippets of footage, while the middle of 2026 should bring gameplay demos and deep dives. Come Fall, Marvel’s Wolverine will finally release, and players will get to chop through hordes of enemies as everyone’s favorite canucklehead.
