Every December, EGS users are treated to daily free games as a countdown to the new year. The latest Epic Games Store free mystery game started off with a bang, and it’s kept its momentum going strong.

The first free mystery game this year was none other than Hogwarts Legacy, with Epic Games Store users actually having a full week to claim it for their digital libraries. Hogwarts Legacy is a massive open-world action-RPG set in the Harry Potter universe, and it was even the best-selling game of 2023, having just recently passed 40 million units sold. Considering just how popular Hogwarts Legacy is, it being an Epic Games Store free game was wild, to say the least. Hogwarts Legacy was cycled out of the free games lineup on December 18 and replaced by Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel officially kicked off the daily giveaway cadence, and it has now been replaced by Eternights.

Eternights is an apocalyptic “dating action game” where players spend their days dungeon crawling and interacting with companions. A ticking clock adds a sense of urgency, forcing players to choose whether they want to focus on romance or dungeon crawling. Dungeons themselves feature monsters to kill, puzzles to solve, and mini-games to conquer, with 2D animated cutscenes that move the story along and get players more invested in their relationships. Eternights earned mixed reviews at the time of its original release in 2023, but it has an interesting Persona-like premise and since it’s free right now, there’s no harm in at least trying it out. Eternights usually retails for $29.99, so getting it for $0.00 is definitely a steal.

Just like Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel was only free for 24 hours, Eternights will also only be up for grabs for one day. Anyone interested in snagging Eternights for their own collection must do so by December 20 at 10:00am CST. At that point, Eternights will be cycled out of the free games lineup and replaced by the December 20 freebie. We have no idea what the December 20 free game will be, but we will all find out at the same time tomorrow.

What we do know is that we can completely discount the painfully fake Epic Games Store free mystery game leak that made the rounds earlier this week. That leaked list, supposedly originating from Chinese social media accounts, was proven wrong right off the bat when Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel was made free instead of the “leaked” Jurassic World Evolution 2, but Eternights being free is the final nail in the coffin. Neither game was mentioned in the leaked list of free EGS mystery games, and so fans can safely assume that the entire list is completely made up.

Now, that doesn’t mean that there won’t be some games on the leaked list given away for free. It’s entirely possible that some of the leaked games will indeed be a part of the Epic Games Store free mystery game promotion this year, but if so, it will be a coincidence instead of a legitimate leak. That being said, the Epic Games Store free mystery games have accurately leaked in the past, so fans should keep an eye out for more information on that front.
