Steam Users Can Claim Retro Platformer for Free Until December 18

By newsgame

Steam users have until December 18 to claim a sci-fi-themed platformer with retro vibes, One Gun Guy, for free. Gamers can find titles of a variety of genres for free on Steam and other platforms with some regularity. Usually, the opportunity to claim them is only available during a brief window, so anybody who wants to take advantage of the offers needs to act quickly.

The games available to claim and keep for free really do cover a range of interests. Recently on Steam, players could grab a creepy horror game with Mostly Positive reviews called Just Ignore Them. Fatshark’s Warhammer 40K: Darktide and the city-builder Songs of Syx by Gamatron were also free earlier in December. And, currently, Pearl Abyss’ fantasy MMORPG Black Desert is free on Steam until December 18, allowing gamers to add it permanently to their libraries at no cost.

Developer Ritual Games and aptly named publisher GrabTheGames are the latest to offer up their project for gamers to check out. One Gun Guy can be claimed for free on Steam through 10 AM PST on December 18. It offers a quick jaunt into a sci-fi world that will take players only about 20 minutes to beat, according to some reviews, but because it offers multiple difficulty settings, it is primed for more than one playthrough. The action platformer game takes place in one giant level with a variety of power-ups, hazards, hidden areas, and enemies scattered about the place. At the end, there is of course a boss to take out.

Steam of course isn’t the only platform where deal-seeking gamers can get their hands on free titles. Epic Game Store has been offering one or two free games on a biweekly or weekly basis since the storefront debuted in 2018. Initially intended to be a temporary way to draw shoppers from Steam to the new online store, the giveaways have been going on for seven years now. Currently, fans can grab Hogwarts Legacy for free from Epic Games Store, and the offer will be available until December 18, at which point a new free game, as yet unnamed, will take its place.

Also, though these don’t count as free game giveaways, they are freebies that some gamers will be interested in getting their hands on soon. Larian Studios just released a free current-gen upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2, meaning fans can now enjoy the epic RPG on Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S with native support for 4K and 60 FPS. Both STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl and Hollow Knight: Silksong also recently revealed free expansions are in the works. The former launches on December 16, while fans of Hornet will have to wait until sometime in 2026 to check out the new content for Team Cherry’s award-winning game.
