Final Fantasy 14 Reveals Preliminary Patch 7.4 Notes

By newsgame

Final Fantasy 14 unveiled the preliminary list of changes coming in Patch 7.4, including a major quality-of-life update to the game’s deep dungeon system. As of Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.4, a deep dungeon run that is interrupted by disconnections can be resumed if all affected players can quickly log back in.

Patch 7.4, Into the Mist, will also serve as an interlude between Dawntrail and Final Fantasy 14‘s next expansion. The main story of Patch 7.4 will span nine quests. The first 7.4 main scenario quest, “With the Winds,” can be started by speaking to Alphinaud in Solution Nine after completing all previous main scenario quests up to that point. The new Mistwake dungeon and Hell on Rails trial battle will be unlocked as players progress through Patch 7.4’s main scenario. Additionally, Final Fantasy 14‘s 7.4 update will include the finale of the fan-favorite Arcadion raid series. The story of the Arcadion’s Heavyweight tier will be told over six quests, starting by accepting the quest “Feral Fandom” from Yaana in Solution Nine. New features, including Hildibrand quests and The Merchant’s Tale variant dungeon, will be added in smaller patches throughout early 2026.

Square Enix Shut Down a Popular Final Fantasy 14 Mod, But Now It’s Changing the Game

Square Enix shut down a mod that many Final Fantasy 14 users were using, but it’s influencing one of the game’s most eagerly anticipated updates.

Final Fantasy 14 Is Saving Deep Dungeon Runs

Along with the new story content, Final Fantasy 14‘s 7.4 update will address a long-standing concern with the deep dungeon feature. Once Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.4 arrives on Tuesday, December 16, a deep dungeon run may be saved if all players who disconnect from the game are able to log back in within 10 minutes, including solo players. The deep dungeon change, according to Final Fantasy 14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida, was made in response to player feedback following waves of DDoS attacks that took place in FF14 throughout the fall of 2025. Prior to Patch 7.4, any deep dungeon runs in-progress that saw all party members disconnect from the game would be considered lost, which would require players to start again from a specific floor. However, Yoshida noted that if a party member dies while all the others are disconnected from the game, the deep dungeon run will still be considered lost.

In addition to the deep dungeon run change, Final Fantasy 14′s 7.4 update will also add new features like the Strategy Board and the Command Panel. The Strategy Board will allow raid teams to organize how a battle will play out, and give players an idea of where they should go during specific mechanics. The Command Panel will give Final Fantasy 14 players a new way to store buttons and commands that are seldom used, such as emotes, crafting macros, and gear sets. Starting with Patch 7.4, Final Fantasy 14 will gradually offer some cosmetic rewards based on ones that were obtained from The Feast PVP mode, which was retired during Endwalker. These replicas of past Feast rewards will also have two dye channels, though their colorations may differ from the original versions.

Other Changes Still To Come in Patch 7.4

Patch 7.4’s Job balance updates for PVE and PVP content will be announced in a follow-up post by Square Enix during Patch 7.4 maintenance, which will take place on Tuesday, December 16, from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM Eastern. A day after the new patch goes live, the annual Starlight Celebration will offer Final Fantasy 14 players a chance to grab six emotes and four new housing items. The Christmas-themed festivities will be held in Gridania from December 17 to 31.

Before Patch 7.4 maintenance begins early on Tuesday, December 16, players looking to grab a free Fantasia should speak to a moogle in Old Gridania. Additionally, the Moogle Treasure Trove event will also conclude once maintenance starts, so diligent Final Fantasy 14 players who have any preparations to wrap up will have just a few days to do so.
