Warframe Devs Give Fans a Little Look Beyond The Old Peace at 2026

By newsgame

Warframe’s next update, The Old Peace, launches on December 10. The new content allows players to explore a key moment in the Tenno’s history, try out new game modes, and get to know—and perhaps even find love with—the members of the notorious Devil’s Triad. That said, this update is just the first of many exciting things coming to Warframe in the near future. The developers have an exciting 2026 planned for players to look forward to.

Game Rant recently spoke to members of the Warframe development team, including creative director Rebecca Ford. Ford shared a few teasers about what is coming to Warframe in 2026. Initially revealed at TennoCon 2025, The Old Peace quest is the beginning of a more in-depth exploration of the Tau system, a key location where many battles and moments of consequence have occurred throughout Warframe’s history. In addition to upcoming updates centered around Tau, Ford hinted at some exciting events both in-game and in person. She confirmed that the team at Digital Extremes has a lot planned for Warframe in the coming year.

Warframe’s Next Major Update Will Travel To The Modern-Day Tau System

While The Old Peace will be adding a large amount of content to Warframe, it is truly only the prelude to what will be coming in 2026. Next year will see a “major narrative chapter” that takes players to the modern-day Tau system. Tau has always been a key location in Warframe’s lore—once a prime terraforming destination for the Orokin Empire, it became the official homeworld of the Sentients after they turned against their creators.

The Old Peace, which explores the Old War-era Tau system, lays the groundwork for the large-scale Tau update coming in 2026. Ford discussed how the two updates will tie together:

“We do think looking back at the past to prepare for the future is essential and exactly what Warframe needs. So, we are looking at the past of the Tenno and the Tau star system, so that we are fully prepared to see Tau in the modern day, which is completely uncharted territory for us.”

Both The Old Peace quest and the 2026 Tau update will utilize the team’s “new approach to telling Warframe stories,” which was first implemented in The Whispers in the Walls and also seen in Jade Shadows and Warframe: 1999. While the story of Warframe may be an epic one that spans centuries and galaxies, individual quests and storylines focus on character dynamics and examine how one person or group’s story can fit into a greater narrative. Tau will continue this trend, Ford explained, saying that the team “humbly promise[s] to keep telling grounded human stories in ways and formats you’ve, hopefully, never seen before in a game.”

An “Echoes” Update, Warframes, Skins, And More Are Coming In 2026

While Tau is still a ways out, Warframe players have much to get excited about earlier in the year as well. Ford teased that what the team calls an “echoes” update will be coming early in 2026, revisiting and following up on a previous expansion. 2025 began with Techrot Encore, a follow-up to Warframe: 1999 that introduced the deadly — but extremely musically talented — Technocyte Coda, the Ruinous Rocker Warframe, and more. Ford confirmed that 2026 will see something similar:

“We usually start the year with our ‘echoes’ update, which revisits aspects of the update before it and expands things out. Similar to what Techrot Encore did for Warframe: 1999.”

It seems likely that 2026’s ‘echoes’ update will tie into The Old Peace or The Devil’s Triad quests in some way — perhaps expanding on the romances players can form with the Devil’s Triad members — but the team is waiting until the beginning of the new year to share concrete information. “We will have more details to share around that in our first Devstream of the year in January,” Ford said, encouraging Warframe players to tune in and learn more about what the upcoming year has in store.

Keep an Eye Out For New Skins and Warframes

“Until then, look forward to new Warframes and stylish new skins,” Ford said. In the most recent Devstream, the team announced a Deluxe skin for Dagath as well as a Deluxe Kaithe Customization and Deluxe Kaithe Floof, to be released in February 2026 to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year. Warframe players will truly be able to celebrate the Year of the Horse in style with all of these horse-themed goodies. There will be opportunities for players to earn Dagath’s components in January 2026, although details have not been confirmed.

Deluxe Dagath is likely far from the only skin coming to Warframe in 2026, and, as Ford hinted, new Warframes will be coming in as well. Ford teased that the team might be working on some unique and unexpected content: “It’s my goal to ensure Warframe continues to be more accessible and remains fresh with new, weird ideas.”

2026 Will Be A Big Year For In-Person Events

Finally, the developers of Warframe are gearing up for multiple in-person events in 2026. Following the success of TennoCon 2025, TennoCon 2026 has already been confirmed, with tickets going on sale on February 27. The team is also setting off on their World Tour, hosting TennoVIP events in multiple countries. Ford said:

“Outside of the game, we are continuing our world tour and traveling to connect with our players in person around the world with our TennoVIP events. Starting with Australia in January.”

In addition to the Australia event, the Warframe team is confirmed to be hosting both a Devstream and a TennoVIP event at PAX East in March, something they also did in 2025 to celebrate the game’s 12th anniversary.

Tickets for these events will go on sale on February 12. Another event will be hosted in London in July, and additional 2026 TennoVIP events in other countries and cities may be announced in the near future. Interested players should keep an eye out for upcoming announcements, such as the Devstream planned for January.

Overall, 2026 looks to be an exciting year for Warframe, with The Old Peace only the beginning of what’s to come. The upcoming exploration of the modern-day Tau system promises to add tons of content to the game as well as expand the lore significantly by finally allowing players to visit this key location where so many important events happened that shaped both the past and the present day. While details may still be somewhat scarce, one thing is for certain: Warframe players have much to look forward to in the year to come.
