Best Builds for Undertaker in Elden Ring Nightreign Forsaken Hollows
The Undertaker is a hybrid Strength and Faith class in Elden Ring Nightreign with a penchant for using hammers. Despite her appearance, she is an incredibly strong melee fighter who is also capable of using some of the best Incantations in the game thanks to how her stats scale, and the Undertaker’s abilities also have some of the best mobility, utility, and self-buffing effects you can ever ask for. Still, without a decent build and a good understanding of how her kit works, you may have trouble making Undertaker in Elden Ring Nightreign work. Here’s a straightforward build for her that takes advantage of all the best parts of her kit.

Undertaker’s Confluence passive is incredible — whenever someone uses their Ultimate (including enemies), you get a free use of your own Ultimate. You have only a few seconds before this free charge expires, so when you Confluence triggers, don’t hesitate to use Loathsome Hex or Enhanced Trance.
Speaking of Enhanced Trance, this ability makes Undertaker an excellent character for fighting difficult bosses or multiple enemies at once. While the ability is active, Undertaker will automatically dodge incoming attacks, much like how Wylder does when he’s about to receive an otherwise-fatal blow.
When you’re facing a tough fight, it’s almost always worth using Enhanced Trance first. Doing so will eat your Ultimate charge, but considering how often you’ll get to use your Ultimate in a big fight, you won’t have to worry ability management as much.
Undertaker Ability Tips
- Hitting enemies 4 times while Trance is active gives you a damage boost. Hitting multiple enemies counts towards this.
- Loathsome Hex is great for interrupting bosses.
- Using Trance will fully restore your stamina.
When to Use Enhanced Trance and Loathsome Hex
Given how Undertaker can use her Ultimate Art more than other Nightfarers in Elden Ring Nightreign, players have a decent degree of flexibility when it comes to picking what ability to use.
In our experience, Enhanced Trance is generally more valuable when it comes to fighting tough enemies like both bosses and big groups of enemies. Meanwhile, Loathsome Hex tends to be more useful as either a nuke-type ability or as a means for reviving downed allies. We recommend prioritizing the use of Enhanced Trance and just using Loathsome Hex via the free ultimate charges Confluence gives you. However, if your teammates often get downed, or if you know you can get more value from interrupting a boss’ attack, then prioritize using Loathsome Hex instead.
Best Undertaker Weapons in Elden Ring Nightreign
You’ll want to use hammers when playing as Undertaker for a couple of reasons:
- Undertaker’s unique hammer moveset is fast, and it has both wide sweeps and strong vertical attacks.
- Hammers tend to scale well with Strength and sometimes Faith.
Marika’s Hammer is the best legendary weapon for Undertaker specifically because of how well it scales with both Strength and Faith. It deals tons of Holy damage, especially with its Ash of War, making it the strongest weapon you can use for Undertaker when fighting Holy-weak bosses like Gladius/Tricephalos.
Of course, players won’t always get Marika’s Hammer during their run. Thankfully, the default Undertaker’s Hammer is more than enough when it’s fully upgraded. This will also let you take full advantage of certain Relic Rites, giving you more agency when it comes to buildcrafting.
Considering how quickly Undertaker swings her hammers, she’s a good candidate for status builds.
Best Relic Rites for Undertaker
We have a few setups for Relic Rites that should be able to help you find more success as Undertaker. Two of these are for directly augmenting your personal combat ability, while one is for players who want to use Incantations.
Given the random nature of Relics in Nightreign, we’ll be listing the stats of the Relics instead of the Relics themselves, when it makes sense to do so.
Status Hammer Build
- Night of Dregs (Red)
- Dark Night of Miasma (Green)
- Night of the Wise
This setup uses three Relics dropped by Nightlords, specifically the Dreglord, Everdark Caligo, and the Sentient Pest. By using these three, your Undertaker’s Hammer will inflict Scarlet Rot, Frostbite, and Poison with every hit, making it extremely potent against the vast majority of enemies. Of course, you can also use other Relics that grant the same effects, though these specific Nightlord Relics have other bonuses that greatly improve your character during a run, providing bonuses like:
- Gain HP recovery when near an enemy with Scarlet Rot
- Improved Physical Damage Negation
- Gain increased attack when near enemies with Scarlet Rot and Poison
Undertaker’s unique hammer moveset lends itself well to status builds, and it only gets better when you get the attack speed bonus from Trance.
Trance Spam Build
- [Undertaker] Executing Art Readies Character Skill
- Stamina Recovers With Each Successful Attack
- Strength +3
This build is for keeping Trance off-cooldown as often as possible. By equipping a Relic that resets Trance’s cooldown whenever you use your Ultimate Art, you’ll be able to get two back-to-back Trance uses, effectively doubling its uptime.
It’ll be hard to get the same effect with Enhanced Trance since it consumes your Ultimate Art gauge, but if you can time Confluence procs well with your Trance usage, you’ll be able to use Enhanced Trance more often than usual.
Stamina recovery on-hit is here to keep you from exhausting yourself while attacking when Trance is active. This effect synergizes with Loathsome Hex’s ability to interrupt enemies.
Incantation Build
- Leather Monocle Case
- Dark Night of the Wise
- Will of the Balancers
The Leather Monocle Case is the reward you get for completing Undertarker’s Remembrance quest. It passively extends the duration of spells and boosts your Physical Attack while giving you another Physical Attack boost whenever you have an Incantation buff on you.
Dark Night of the Wise, which you can get by beating Everdark Sentient Pest in Nightreign, greatly increases your FP while giving you FP restoration when hitting consecutive attacks. Meanwhile, Will of the Balancers improves the Attack Power of melee attacks and skills while giving you continuous FP Recovery.
This setup lets you use Incantations more freely while giving yourself strong attack buffs. We highly recommend Incantations that directly affect yourself, such as Golden Vow, though offensive spells like Order’s Blade will do just fine. Make sure to bring a good Seal when playing this build.
